Cardinal Dolan and the Shameful NYC St. Patrick's Gay Parade
NC Register ^ | September 3, 2014 | Patrick Archbold

If reports are to be believed, a compromise is in the works that will amount to nothing less than an endorsement of the gay identity in the 2015 NYC St. Patrick's Day parade.

The Irish Times reports that under pressure from NBC, not only will a group be allowed to march in the parade with a gay identity banner (something previously banned) but that none other than Timothy Cardinal Dolan will be Grand Marshal.

A gay group of employees from NBC will march in next year’s New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade behind their own banner, a source with knowledge of the ongoing parade controversy has told the Irish Voice.

On Wednesday, September 3, at a reception at the New York Athletic Club, Cardinal Timothy Dolan will be named as the grand marshal of the 254th St. Patrick’s Day parade, set to step off on Tuesday, March 17.

In a historic move aimed at defusing the storm that erupted this year over the exclusion of gay banners in the march, the addition of a banner identifying gay NBC staffers is a compromise forged at the insistence of several New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee members, including Dr. John Lahey, president of Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, and Francis X. Comerford, chief revenue officer for NBC-owned TV stations.

NBC, the long-time broadcast home of the St. Patrick’s Day parade, was prepared to drop its coverage unless a compromise that resulted in the inclusion of a gay group was brokered.

If this is true, and I pray it is not, it is a shameful and sinful capitulation by the parade organizers and Cardinal Dolan.

from what I have gleaned about Dolan had he picked a different profession he would be marching in the poorly/barely dressed section of the parade...

Bill Donahue caved as well. Luckily for me, I’ve always hated the parade.

No, I don’t believe that. He’s a careerist. He can’t lick the shoes of the late, great Cardinal O’Connor.

Good idea, although I haven’t been to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in NYC since 1984. :)

Heretofore, the marxist left has infiltrated the political culture, unions, academia, etc. Now, it appears that they’ve gotten a foothold in the Church via Dolan, Bergoglio and others.

Somewhere in my 30's (a LONG time ago) I gave up on parades. I USED to merely avoid them. Now I hardly know they exist.

GIANT who cares?

Expect other “Gay Pride” groups joining the march - probably have men dressed as nuns in green habits and others wearing nothing but a jockstrap. Women nearly naked except green paint covering their privates. Hope it snows...

This has always been a Catholic parade that’s why people care. Personally, I have never been a fan of any parade. And since this is the biggest that NYC puts on, it overwhelms the city and sends tourists all over the city until I can’t breathe. Many NYers hates it.

As in the days of Noah and Lot. . church leadership all over the country (all denominations) are leading their flocks astray. Just think about a cardinal who would so blatantly spit in God’s face. For what. . to parade up and down the street blaspheming God. This is a mockery. Not throwing stones, I’m a sinner saved by grace but just think about it. It is downright creepy.

WHAT a shame that it turned into THIS.
Maybe it's time to stop ALL parades or put them into a single street or park. Thanks for your feedback.

All things considered, why doesn’t the Pope cancel the St. Patrick’s Parade?

Its all about the money — no more, no less. I assume that if NBC pulls the plug and no one else picks up the parade, then the organizers lose hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not more.

Guinness is another example. It pulled out of the parade last year not because of some deep support for homo rights, but out of fear that it would lose sales in homo markets. If Guinness really has a legitimate pro-homo agenda, then it would have pulled out of countries in Africa and Southeast Asia where homosexuality is punishable by inprisonment, torture, and death.

Because the parade is not a Church event.

Perhaps this a case of follow the money. Who gets paid by NBC to cover the parade?

Because the parade is not a Church event.

Then the clergy (i.e. Cardinal Dolan) should not participate.
