Prayer for Our American Heroes and Nation

And he sent orders and had John beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. And his disciples came and took away the corpse and buried it, and went and told Jesus. Now when Jesus heard it, he withdrew from there in a boat to an isolated place by himself. And when the crowds heard it, they followed him by land from the towns. And as he got out, he saw the large crowd and had compassion on them and healed their sick. Matthew 14:10-14

PRECIOUS LORD, it’s been a few weeks now since the beheading of James Foley, and the horror and sadness still resonates within my heart and the hearts of our nation. LORD, thank YOU for this verse today. When we read that you are a man of sorrows, acquainted with all we face…we can see it here, in all its beauty. LORD, YOU too needed time to be alone. I can only image the sorrow YOU endured not only for YOUR beloved friend, but for the aftermath and sorrow of those who knew him too. YOU looked upon that very crowd and had compassion and healed them.

OH JESUS, hold us in YOUR ARMS. We are afraid. We see the enemy and the evil. We need THY COMPASSIONS to come along side us…we pray THY COMPASSIONS to heal those who are mourning. We seek THY COMPASSIONS upon those who face such cruelty among our beloved heroes and those who stand up against this evil world.

And LORD, we ask for MERCY and COMPASSION to forgive us. For LORD, indeed, we sow what we reap, and if we sow destruction, we will reap it, and LORD our nation has walked the path of Spiritual and Physical destruction and we have allowed evil to fill the gaps. For this, we are sorry.

Please, take hold of our lives and make us again strong so that we may face all that is to come. IN YOUR NAME alone we ask, AMEN.

Because of the Lord’s gracious love we are not consumed, since his compassions never end. Lamentations 3:22 Amen, please join me today in prayer, as we lean fully on the LOVE and COMPASSION of our SAVIOR and KING. Thank you for your insights about Jesus and John the Baptist. They were, of course, cousins, the same age, and according to Christian Legend, grew up together. John knew his cousin was the Messiah from the Womb, as evidenced in the Gospel.

Jesus is our Perfect High Priest, having suffered everything we have experienced, yet without sin.

He even knows what it is like to have His best friend beheaded, and the remains publicly abused.
