Father David told us that because Tony [Palmer] was not a Roman Catholic he had to ask his bishops permission to celebrate the requiem and though Tonys wife and children are Roman Catholics, permission still had to be given for the requiem. The bishop agreed but said that Tony could not be buried as a bishop as he was not a Roman Catholic bishop. However, Pope Francis said he should and could be buried as a bishop, and so that put an end to that little bit of ecclesiastical nonsense!

“He said, A basic unity of churches that remain Churches, yet become one Church must replace the idea of conversion”
The key word is “Churches”.
Only the Catholic Church and Orthodox Church are Christian churches. All Christian faiths born out of the Reformation, due to the fact they have no apostolic sucession, are not Churches, but ecclesial communities.
And in both instances, 1966 and 2007 Benedict was talking about Churches, not protestants that claim to be Christian but really are not, only members of ecclesial “communities”.
If you want to be a Christian either become Catholic or Orthodox, it’s pretty simple.
Now you are just making things up out of thin air.
Why did Pope Benedict give the protestant, Brother Roger, Holy Communion?
Why did Pope Benedict give the Archdruid, Rowan Williams, a pectoral cross?
Look up Can. 1183. O'Malley is Francis' mini-me, and Ted Kennedy being granted a requiem funeral was no more appropriate than Palmer's.
Not a clue.
The Orthodox church is still not the One True Church. It too must return to the Catholic Church. Your post doesn’t explain or clear anything up.
Agreed.
“Bishop” Tony’s final contribution to the “convergence movement”, courtesy of Pope Francis. Would Francis also approve of Pentecostal “Holy Laughter” funerals for Catholics, since he apparently views Catholicism and other religions as interchangeable? Poor Palmer said he wanted to convert, yet Francis dissuaded him. Was Palmer more Catholic at heart than our current Pope?
“O Jesus, have mercy on Thy Holy Church; take care of it.”
You don’t know if your husband and mother died after the Second Vatican Council?
The first heresy was Gnosticism, followed by Arianism, then Monophysitism. Then some other heresies. Then Islam (which was a blend of Heresy, heretical Gnosticism & paganism). Then the Denial of the Filioque. But there is a simple solution to which all Catholics (both Roman-Rite & Eastern Catholics) AND Eastern Orthodox can agree: Holy Spirit who proceeds from the Father THROUGH the Son. There, fixed for both sides (without making compromises), can we reunite now? When the Catholics & the Eastern Orthodoxs reunite, all of Christendom shall come together. Protestants & other heretics will cease to be, & will see the truth of Catholicism & join in full Communion. Christianity will be one as Christ prayed to the Father, & Islam & secularism will have no hold on us.

“Why did Pope Benedict give the Archdruid, Rowan Williams, a pectoral cross”.
I don’t think it’s appropriate, no matter who does it. The pectoral cross is a symbol of episcopal authority, which Anglicans do not and cannot have.
So how are you so certain what Fr. Ratzinger was talking about in 1966?
Benedict is a lot smarter than I am, but I don’t think presenting a pectoral cross to any bishop other than a Roman Catholic bishop is right. But that’s me. Maybe I’m wrong. Benedict must have had his reasons. I wouldn’t have done it.
You really simplify the differences between the Orthodox and the Catholic Church. We will reunite when the Orthodox become Catholic. Until then the Orthodox Church is schismatic and should not be considered on equal grounds.
Democrats and Republicans sat side by side in the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, praying for Senator Kennedy and his family.
