It's over ... Genocide has been accomplished

[Cross removed this week from dome of Syriac Orthodox Cathedral, Mosul, Iraq]

For two thousand years, our dearest brethren saw it all from Mosul: Romanized Greeks, Hellenized Persians, Hellenized Romans from all origins later called "Byzantines", Armenians, Arabs from the desert with a religion of the sword, Egyptians, Crusaders, Mongols, Turks, French and British, "Independence"... Then the clumsiest Empire in history, an Empire unwanted by most voters, unwarranted by the Republic's own Constitution, led by bellicose hawks motivated by God knows what, justifying their actions on untruths, arrived, upsetting a balance that was not the best, but was best of all possible outcomes. Two Vicars of Christ had cried their hearts out in vain warning of the grave danger of an intervention, of the, "extremisms that could stem from it."

Things were never the same.

For years, we have been warning that support for terrorists in neighboring Syria would surely end badly. But even we could not imagine that it would end so badly so fast and over such a vast area. And yet, the insane Empire-builders are still handing billions and billions, and hundreds of millions of dollars to "moderate" terrorists! Where's the outrage? Have you contacted your congressman, senator, president, MP, prime-minister expressing your outrage, begging this madness to stop?

This evening, our brethren the Syrian (Syriac) Catholics and Chaldean Catholics, who worship in the language of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and all other Christians are gone from Mosul. There may be some hidden in various places, but all public signs of their presence are gone. The seat of the Syrian Catholic Archeparchy of Mosul was completely burned down by the terrorist "Islamic State" this very evening, July 18, 2014, several converging reports seem to confirm.**

After two thousand years, it is finished. It's over.*** Who will pay for the lasting damage lying Western politicians created by starting a process that would lead to what not even the first Islamic rulers, thirteen centuries ago, ever did, the obliteration of Christian life and populations? "Revenge is mine, and I will repay them in due time," says the Lord. His judgment over this generation and their rulers will be overwhelming and frightful.

In Mosul, genocide* has been accomplished. Where's the outrage? There's no more outrage, just silence - cut by sounds of blades, gunshots, bombs, and the muezzin's loud calls to prayer.

Notes:

*The word is used deliberately and appropriately. The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was signed in 1948 and entered into effect in 1951. Its definition of genocide is clear, and includes any single one of the following.

Article 2. In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

** Jul 19 12:00 p.m. update: confirmed by Syrian Catholic Patriarch in interview to Vatican Radio.
*** On Friday, the very day of the Muslim ultimatum that led to the mass final exodus of Christians from Mosul, Cardinal Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, made public his June 24 Message for the End of Ramadan. The timing could not be less appropriate and more indicative of the inanity of it all.

Thank Mr. Obama for that!

Thank you George Dubya Bush, thank you Dick Cheney, thank you Donald Rumsfeld, thank you Barak Obama.

For the past decade, our policies in the Middle East have done nothing but embolden Islamic radicals from Tunisia to Syria. Four thousand Americans died in Iraq to remove a secular "bad guy" and replace him with an Islamic Republic lead by cardboard cut-out leaders who had neither the popular appeal nor the steel-capped boots to keep the jihadists under control the way Saddam did. This was always going to be the outcome of our intervention.

"Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the dogs of war,
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

I do believe “Jimmy” deserves a little of the credit for turning the middle east into a hell hole.

Ethnic cleansing can also mean physical removal from a defined area. Thus, forced deportation is a form of ethnic cleaning. Of course, so is mass murder.

It's the outcome predicted by Pope John Paul II, then-Cardinal Ratzinger, and the six Eastern Patriarchs (if I remember correctly: the Maronites, Melkites, Chaldeans, Copts, Syrian and Armenians?) who spoke out in 2003 against the Iraq War before the invasion was launched. They said: this will destroy the Christians of the East.

Saddam was a brute, but he kept the lid on the jihadis and fostered not just the existence, but even respect for, the 16-19-centuries' old Christian communities.

I'm not, of course, saying Bush wanted or expected the whole thing to explode and the Christians to face extinction. (I personally think he was the victim of bad intelligence.) But that's what happened and that was the result.

But I've always wondered why, when 17 of the 19 guys who blew up the World Trade center were Saudis coordinated by Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, we targeted, not Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, for Afghanistan and Iraq.

Why Iraq?

Why Iraq?

Had Saudi Arabia ever used WMD? Had they ever had a WMD program? Was their leadership a threat to provide al-Qaeda with WMD for the purpose of attacking the USA?

The Eastern Christians face extinction so long as there is a radical Islamist movement. At any moment, any regime in the Middle East is likely to be challenged by the radical Islamist movement.

Eastern Christians (and Jews) are threatened so long as these creatures draw breath -- irrespective of who might be in change at any given moment.

The Sauis are the principal funders of every Salafist jihadi terorist organization in the world.

Google this:

Walsh, Declan (December 5, 2010). "WikiLeaks cables portray Saudi Arabia as a cash machine for terrorists". The Guardian (London).

"US embassy cables: Hillary Clinton says Saudi Arabia 'a critical source of terrorist funding'". The Guardian (London). December 5, 2010.

Fact remains, the Saudis are not a threat to provide WMD to the terrorists.

Separately, I would assume the Saudis are in conflict with the Caliphate movement. As the Guardians of Mecca and Medina, the Saudis probably aren't interested in a competing group trying to establish a Caliphate. This seems like a schism that could be exploited...

Just imagine for a moment, if the IDF walked onto the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and declared that ANY Muslim still in Jerusalem must convert, leave, or die. I’m sure they’d be allowed to do that by every other nation in the world, right?/s
