"Why Christians get the 10 commandments wrong" (Salon)
Salon ^ | 7/14/14 | Valerie Tarico

The American Bible Society funds an annual “State of the Bible” survey, and this spring the Christian Post cheered some of their findings: “The Bible continues to dominate both mind space and book retail space as America’s undisputed best-seller.” According to the study, conducted by Barna, over 88 percent of American homes contain a Bible. In fact, the average is 4.7 copies per household.

Now, I should note that a young non-religious friend once came home from school with a bright green Gideon’s New Testament that she later touted as a reserve of fine rolling papers, which may explain why the household average isn’t a solid 5.

But most Americans treat the Bible with some degree of deference.

Among adults who responded to the survey, 56% were classified as “pro-Bible” meaning they think it is the actual or inspired word of God with no errors. More than a quarter said that they read from the Good Book daily or at least several times a week. Fully half said the Bible contains everything a person needs to know to lead a meaningful life.

“That’s likely a hindrance...They get the appearance of being right with a few things that are true while the rest, that which counts for their salvation is replaced with the fakery that their religion does so well...”

True, but when God opens the eyes of a Catholic to having a real relationship with Christ, it is life-shaking and deeply and joyfully received.

Do you still follow Catholic traditions then?

“Do you still follow Catholic traditions then?”

This is a very general question. Perhaps you could specify...

In other words, you don’t worship Mary anymore for one.

Never did. Never will.

That had to be some conflict with you over the years. Do you advise your fellow Catholics about that?

KS

You are assuming I’m catholic. Not so. I came to know Christ. I worship in an ekklesia of local believers.

I see now. I read too much into post 101. But your post 103 puzzles me.

I just had no idea what you were referring to? The Gregorian calendar? The authorship of Hebrews?

Maybe we should all ask God for a little more guidance tonight.

Well, we are facing the influence of the “SuperMoon”as we have this conversation.

Guidance is always good!

That was a couple of days ago; but last night, as the waning moon rose, it looked like and orange UFO hovering over the neighbor’s corn!

"Thou shalt not kill" isn't so simple.

It also means not doing things which put yourself in danger:
speeding,
riding a motorcycle without a helmet,
over-eating,
over-drinking,
being with people who do stupid things like take drugs and
having sex out of marriage which could get one deadly STDs.

That is, jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge is one thing but doing "deadly" things is killing self...also against the 5th commandment.

Poor soul!

Try coping and pasting the url properties of one of your pictures on facebook here. Put your mouse over the picture and right chick it. Highlight the url address and copy it.

Then just paste the address here all by itself like you just tried to do. We will get this done yet! Don’t add any html codes to it, yet. I just need to know if you have Step 1 right.

what is a url address?

Think of it as a web site address where information can be found. Just like a house address where you can be found.

Do you see this http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/3180719/posts?q=1&;page=119#119 in your address bar at the very top of your screen?

That is the url address to this thread.

1. If you put the mouse pointer in that bar above and left button click it, it should Highlight it automatically.

2. Then you keep the mouse's indicator in that bar and Right click the mouse you should see where you can copy that address. Copy it by using your left click button.

3. Now reply to me and right click the mouse to open that little option box and left click on PASTE. Once you see the address pasted hit the post button.
