Cincinnati Catholics pound pavement in protest [over teacher morality clause]

Cincinnati Catholics said a revised morality clause in the contract for teachers in the archdiocese is unfair and limits free speech.

Some teachers are now refusing to sign it.

At least a hundred Catholic teachers, parents and students protested at Fountain Square on Tuesday.

Their message to the archdiocese: is fix the contract.

Protestors are calling on the archdiocese to fix the morality clause in the teacher-ministry contract.

The revised contract for this coming year is very specific.

It has a laundry list of violations teachers must stay away from.

This includes public support of homosexuality, sexual activity out of wedlock and artificial insemination.

Protestors have signed a local petition with more than a thousand signatures. The national one has 23,000.

They will walk to the archdiocese offices to deliver the petitions.

WLWT News 5 spoke with a current Catholic teacher who is refusing to sign the contract because of her son.

“The main reason I will not sign this contract is my son is gay, and the day he came out to me, the world was lifted off of his shoulder as well as mine, and it was at that moment that I said to myself I will never hide who he is, be embarrassed of who he is and at that point I said I’m going to use this opportunity to make a difference,” Molly Shumate said.

Protestors said they want to go back to the old contract from last year.

They also hope to have more dialogue with the archdiocese.

National petition states that the contract is intrusive and goes against Pope Francis' tone of humility and acceptance.

Probably puts this in better context.

Each and every teacher at that protest should be fired and blacklisted from ever being allowed to teach in a Catholic school (anywhere) again. The rationale is if they protest having to be a good Catholic role-model for children, they have no business teaching in a Catholic school.

Each and every parent at that protest should have their child dis-invited to return to school and permanently barred. The reason being that they are undoubtedly raising their children with that kind of libertine attitude and that would wear off on other kids in the school.

I would also add canonical penalties (like excommunication vitandi), but I don't know which canon could be used.

Obviously, Archbishop Schnurr has some catechesis to do in his archdiocese.

Why do these people want to be Catholics?

They also hope to have more dialogue with the archdiocese.

Sample dialogue:

"Put the petition in the inbox, please. Would you like a receipt? No? Well, thank you for stopping by."
"Is that it?"
"Yes. Have a nice day!"

Dear Molly - it ISN’T who he is, it’s what he DOES.

What kind of mother would put her child's physical pleasure ahead of eternal life?

Go to work for a public school. You can be an atheist and probably get a bonus.

Unfortunately, these people were poorly catechized themselves. Her emotions are driving her intellect.

I can guarantee you she's never taken a course in formal logic. We wouldn't want to teach people how to think properly. That's not what school's about.

Let's see... Before her son came out as queer, she didn't care about queers. Now she supports them. Does she think that public acceptance of homosexuals will in any way lessen the personal humiliation she must have for having a queer son? What does her husband have to say about this matter?

Hey Molly, do you know the difference between “hiding” and “promoting”?

Exactly. The basic idea is, if you are going to teach for the Church, you cannot publicly oppose the teaching.

Wow. 100 people, which is journalese for maybe 50 people.

The Archbishop can catechize as much as his job requires, but in a diocese that size you are always going to have at least that many wreckers.

actually, I was talking about the 1,000 people who signed the petition (sorry I didn’t make that clear).

And, yes, catechesis. It only takes a few wild yeast cells to infect a whole batch of beer.

Why do these people want to be Catholics?

Same reason they want to get "married."

To destroy the institution.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

I think it’s guilt over some form of neglect. Cher left her daughter in the care of a lesbian child abuser so she could pursue her career. Her daughter turned into an adult mess. Now Cher promotes the homo agenda. I think there are a lot of stories like that.
