'Gospel of Jesus's Wife' likely isn't a modern forgery, scientists claim

A controversial document that suggests that Jesus of Nazareth had a wife is most likely ancient and not a modern forgery, according to a paper published today in the Harvard Theological Review. The papyrus fragment, known as the "Gospel of Jesus's Wife," has been the subject of widespread debate since it was discovered in 2012 because it includes the phrase "Jesus said to them, 'My wife...'." It also mentions that "she will be able to be my disciple," which led some to question whether women should be allowed to become Catholic priests.

The Vatican has previously said that the document is most likely a modern forgery, but scientists from Columbia University, Harvard, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology say their analysis strongly suggests that it is indeed part of an ancient manuscript and that it wasn't edited or tampered with. The researchers used micro-Raman and infrared spectroscopy to analyze the composition of the ink, looking for clues as to whether it may have been applied after the original document was damaged.

Simple answer: it’s an ancient forgery.

New Testament pseudepigrapha and apocrypha can be quite ancient. That doesn’t mean they aren’t pure fiction.

His wife could refer to the Church which is called the Bride of Christ.

How millions of people were named Jesus? There were quite a few in Jerusalem when Jesus Christ son of Joseph was crucified.

It probably is legit then. Doesn’t make it true. Doesn’t make it false. The Savior is the Savior regardless.

... and just in time for Easter, too. Just another excuse for the mainstream media to spit in the face of believing Christians just in time for their most sacred day. They do it every Christmas and Easter.

I hadn't thought of that, but you could well be right on the money. The analogy of a wife is even used in the old testament between God and Israel, for example see Hosea. If that the phrase mentioned is all they have to go on, they are making a serious mountain out of less than a mole hill.

The same people who work diligently to discredit the Shroud of Turin, which would enforce the miraculous nature of Christianity, labor as diligently to legitimize this tripe, which damages it.

One might see these combined efforts as a concerted attack on the institution itself by secular Humanists. If one were inclined to look at the bigger picture ...

This “new” information means nothing. If he was Married that makes me only respects him more. He did it all with a wife! This means that marriage was blessed by the Lord. he wasn’t Gay. How did he marry? A prostute? Save her from a life of sin? Is this a bad thing? Sounds sort of like the thing Jesus would do. Jesus was a human when on Earth—he had to know what we are like—and that includes having a spouce—this doesn’t change his MESSAGE! That is what is important—Not the miracles—not the Virgin Birth—the Message! Love ye One another! Do unto others what you would have done to you...Etc...

We had wacky pranksters 1800 years ago too.

I personally think Christ would not have married because he was too compassionate to want to put a wife through his Crucifixion. It was bad enough that his mother had to watch.

That the modern homo-fascists are digging up to try to discredit Christianity to assist the Islamic Satanic takeover of the U.S. The homos seem to forget that he rose from the dead, raised others from the dead, healed sickness, cured blindness anddeafness, made the lame to walk, walked on water, etc...
