Beware of Roma Downey

“No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-14

What do you call someone who is a student of new age psychology and spiritualism? Do you call them new agers? Do you call them seekers? Would you dare call them Christian? Well, if you’re Roma Downey, then yes, you would call yourself all the above.

Haven't seen the movie yet but here's another take on it:

The “Son of God” Movie Is NOT What We Think

Sounds like she’s drifted over to secular humanism, but of the ‘spiritual’ kind. Bunkum...

Where and when have the Christians invested millions in producing the films they would like out there? God said He could even use the rocks to cry out if there were no others. I’m wondering if God used this couple because Christians didn’t step up to the plate.

Leave Roma alone and go make your own movie.

I would largely promote the piece, if not for it being humorously anti-Catholicism.

"She's a pagan! She's a spiritualist! She's a universalist! She's a humanist! She a devout Catholic!"

First off, it's funny the way they present her "devout Catholicism" as evidence she's a flaky non-Christian. But also, Sorry folks, but if she's any of those things, she's not a devout Catholic. With important exceptions, it's an indication of someone not being very devout when they marry a Protestant. Not that that's in the category of building ties to paganism, spiritualist, universalism, etc., but indifferentism is a sign of meager spirituality. Lutherans and Methodists marrying isn't much of an indicator of indifferentism, but Catholics and nondenominationalists marrying each other usually is.

(It's an entirely different matter when one spouse converts the other; willingness to convert is a strong sign against indifferentism.)

More like, “my Christianity is right, and yours is mushy indifferentism.”

You may be right, but the road to hell is often paved in Good Intentions. There is a great danger here for those who believe that all religions are essentially the same and everyone will get to God regardless of what they believe or don’t believe. This is where Roma and her hubby are. Rules stink - Judgment is terrible - Repentance is unnecessary because I am a “work in progress.” None of us are Sinners - that is just mean. Bottom line: Do we just want to feel good or do we really want Salvation?

She’s a freak, not to be trusted, and stupid to put her plastic mug in the role of Mary. But I will still see the film so that Hollyweird can see that Biblical stories sell better than smut.

indifferentism

My wife and I come from different religious traditions and are accustomed to different forms of 'external' worship. We go to services at each other's churches. At an internal or spiritual level, the Lord has joined us into one where dogma doesn't matter and we share what no one else can judge.

If my mother-in-law were still alive (a devout Tridentine Catholic), she would laugh at your comment. See, she married a Protestant who came to hate the Catholic Church and she would never think of divorcing him...

This article may or may not have truth to tell; but it is so terribly badly written that it hurts itself. Must dismiss it.

I noted that there are many important exceptions precisely because I know of several happy interfaith marriages. But most of the time when people from incompatible religions get married, it’s because neither are terribly religious in the first place. And even when they are, the children very often end up irreligious.

"Anyone else know more about this?"

It's true; Downey is very much into New-Age occultism/spiritualism. She is a devotee of John Edwards, the TV psychic; she says she has communicated with her dead mother through him.

Wasn't picking on Roma. Merely posted a link to another discussion about the movie here on FR. As I stated, I haven't seen the movie yet so can't offer an opinion either way.

As far as making my own movie I think Mel Gibson has already made one that's hard to top with "The Passion of the Christ".

Good point.

God uses all who are open to listening to him. Those who hear and refuse to let Him use them?????

Of course you would, you and the author have the same mindset. You just object to the author’s super dogmatic attack against your dogma. But since you share the author’s hyper dogmatism, you kind of get where he is coming from. Catholics marrying Protestants, the only thing good that could come from that is me, and my brother and sister. People like this author have driven more people away from religion than you can shake a stick at.

The gospel of Roma Downey and her husband Mark Burnett, is another Jesus, another gospel and another way

New Age cosmic humanism sees Christ's life as important only in the sense that it showed humanity to be capable of achieving perfection even godhood. The significance of incarnation and resurrection is not that Jesus was a human like us, but rather that we are gods like him-or at least have the potential to be.

The Son of God is not Jesus but our combined Christ consciousness. Jesus is looked on as one of a select company, having achieved Christ consciousness. Every person is encouraged to acquire this same level of consciousness. How can anyone hope to achieve such a divine consciousness? Because everyone is a part of God, Cosmic Humanists believe that we and God are ontologically one.
