Students Try to Banish Catholic Chaplain From Campus for Anti-Gay Stance
The Daily Caller via Yahoo News ^ | 4/4/13

Two gay seniors at George Washington University say they feel alienated because the chaplain at George Washington’s Newman Center rejects homosexuality, and they aren’t going to take it anymore.

The seniors, Damian Legacy and Blake Bergen, have announced a coordinated campaign to rid the campus of the Roman Catholic priest, reports The GW Hatchet, the school’s independent student newspaper.

They also assert that 12 or more students have quit the Newman Center in recent years because they can’t tolerate Father Greg Shaffer’s ardent anti-gay and, for the record, anti-abortion — beliefs.

Shaffer has worked for five years at George Washington’s Newman Center. He told the Hatchet that religion and unrestricted speech “play a vital role at a diverse university like GW.”

Legacy and Bergen say they are primarily upset about the counseling Shaffer offers. They say he urges students who have homosexual feelings to lead a life of celibacy.

Catholic Church doctrine maintains that homosexual desire isn’t a sin, but acting on that desire is, according to the website Catholic.com.

I occasionally spend a moment puzzling about why homosexual men are so into abortion.

Loose journalism.

Catholic doctrine maintains that homosexual orientation per se, is not sinful but disordered. Homosexual acts are acts of "great depravity" and the lust or desire to commit such acts would also be sinful.

Thanks to you and "Natural Law" for informing me of Catholic doctrine on the subject.

As I suspected, it is the act and the lust for the act that is considered sin, not merely the lack of desire toward the opposite sex.

Those kinds of persons have always existed, they lack strong sexual desire, certainly for the opposite sex.

They were always the unmarried uncle or aunt in the family.

Sometimes they were referred to as the spinster auntie or the perennial bachelor uncle.

Many times we looked forward to their visits for they oftentimes brought gifs for the kiddies as they weren't spending their money on their own families!

Now, however, society pushes them toward same sex affiliations as society cannot imagine life without sex!

Why don’t these two students leave instead?

The chaplain needs prayer. The GW University is a private, secular university, so they will have all the political correctness such a place could muster.

Lord Jesus, we pray that Father Shaeffer receive divine protection in his mission of speaking truth. In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen.

They say he urges students who have homosexual feelings to lead a life of celibacy.

I think the students' obsession with anus worship has hampered their cognitive abilities leading them to confuse the term 'celibate' with the term 'chaste'.

Besides, everyone knows you can not marry an anus.

Homosexual acts are sinful.

An "act" can be a thought (interior act) or word or deed (exterior act.) Any homosexual act, interior or exterior, is a sin.

Related, but morally disinguishable from this, is a homosexual "orientaion," a response pattern which is not willed. For some people, this produces more-or-less persistent temptations which are not willful, i.e. tempting thoughts or feelings which you are determined to resist and overcome.

So, as Jesus said, if you look at somebody to intentionaly excite you own lust, you have committed adultery with them in your heart: this is a sin.

But if you have involuntary feeling which you are resisting that is a temptation, not a sin. Holy Scripture says that Jesus was tempted in every way that we are, but without sinning.

I wonder why this GWU senior would go to a priest for counseling, knowing that the priest would try to help him resist temptation an win a victory over the unwelcome tendencies related to his orientation. Was the student genuinely surprisd that a priest would encourage him to gain self-mastery by the grace of God to remain free of sin?

All that changed, though, when Legacy told Shaffer that he and Bergen had entered a homosexual relationship. Shaffer allegedly charged Legacy with being immoral and lacking in faith.

Uhhh...What did you want him to say? Did you want him to give you a round of applause? Buy you flowers? Throw a party? Marry you on the spot?

It's not like he was merely picking on homosexuals. He would say that if you were engaging in ANY sin, be that sin premarital sex, procuring an abortion, adultery, stealing, doing drugs, being an alcoholic, etc. The job of a priest is to guide people to Christ and discourage people from sinning because sin separates people from Christ.

He's mad because the priest didn't toss out Catholic and Biblical teachings and praise his decision. A priest isn't going to do that. If he wants that, find any gay pride group, and they'll celebrate his relationship with open arms.

“To have my faith leader view me that way, just because of one piece of the way that God made me, and to think that one part is responsible for the destruction of my human dignity, it just didn’t…I can’t even begin to describe the mental conflict that it creates,” Legacy told the Hatchet.

I think the priest is obviously aggravating his conscience because he can't just disregard what he said and walk away, he has to remove the priest completely.

How long before we become like Sweden and part of the Bible and Church teachings become hate speech? We'll be like China where we have a "Patriotic Catholic Church" who has to tow the party line.

Now, however, society pushes them toward same sex affiliations as society cannot imagine life without sex!

Very good points. There have probably always been many people who really weren't interested in getting involved, so to speak, not only sexually but emotionally. They often enjoyed the company of their brothers and sisters and their families, but either had other interests or just simply personalities that weren't going to be comfortable in that life.

And now in our sex-obsessed society, they've all been forced to announce that this means that they're "gay." Look at all the effort modern literary "scholars" put into trying to prove that one or another early writer who never married but had friends was either actively homosexual or secretly lusting for his friends. Said writer would have been shocked and disgusted, but now, since sex is all, this is unthinkable to the modern mind.

You have also hit on a subject that sets my blood boiling - gays who claim this or that person was gay and as the person is no longer living to dispute the so-called "facts" invented out of whole cloth.

The spurious claims go unanswered, even repeated with each gay defender adding more "facts" of their own until many "low information" people actually believe the lie and argue the pro-gay case!

Thank you, xzins.

Almighty God, please supply this Campus Ministry chaplain with the clarity and courage to defend Holy Marriage as established by Divine and Natural Law, and to minister to those who are struggling in the grips of a corrupt and degenerate culture. Increase his faith in the wisdom of Your designs; animate his Bishop to confirm him in the Truth. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Salvation: who's his bishop? would it be--- Wuerl? :o(

Redouble the prayers!
