The media silly season prior to a conclave may have just reached its peak.
The media has been giving all kinds of silly advice to the cardinal-electors and the future pontiff, but E.J. Dionne's idiocy takes the cake.
In giving up the papacy, Pope Benedict XVI was brave and bold. He did the unexpected for the good of the Catholic Church. And when it selects a new pope next month, the College of Cardinals should be equally brave and bold. It is time to elect a nun as the next pontiff. To even critique the writing of (e)EJ(it) is to give it more credibility than it deserves. It is infantile in the extreme.
...
A sister as pope could also resolve what might seem a contradiction in Catholic theology. More than Protestants, Catholics are profoundly devoted to the Virgin Mary — and few were as devoted as the late Pope John Paul II, who declared that Mary “sustains the spiritual life of us all, and encourages us, even in suffering, to have faith and hope.” A church for which the Blessed Mother plays such an important role should certainly be comfortable with female leadership.
While support for a stronger role for women in the church tends to be a “liberal” cause, many faithful conservatives also cite the work of nuns as reinforcing their devotion to the church — from the sisters who educated them in parish schools to the work of Mother Teresa’s religious order.
Alzheimer’s.

GTH E.J. Dionne.
His piece is blasphemy.
A Mullah?
??
What a moron, Reading a little of this tells me he knows nothing about any of it
The idiot Dionne has gone over the edge.....again.
I had it explained to me and this is pretty much what is in the Catechism - when the priest is performing his office, he is not the priest, a man, he is Christ. Two examples are the Consecration when the priest repeats the words of Christ at the last supper. The other is in confession when the priest says Te Absolvo. He is speaking as Christ. The other example is the substance of the Eucharist - bread and wine. It can’t be milk and cookies. It has to be bread and wine. The essence of the male - Christ’s body and blood. Makes perfect sense to me. And my words to those who don’t like it? Go find someone else to play church with and to pretend you’re close to God.
None of them are making much sense, but the one thing that's clear is that they hate the Catholic Church. Yelling "child molester" at the top of their lungs with glee, never mind the facts, about that or anything else.
wait . . . FR posters do that too.
The best choice for replacing E. J. Dionne — a rational, thinking human being. God knows, he’s nothing more than a chimpanzee.
Just going to ignore the article ‘cause as it’s utter crap as are all this guy’s ramblings.
Anyway...my guess it’ll be Scola of Milan or the Canadian Ouellet.
Yo Mamma ain’t no Papa
I knew that some lefty would say this. But figured it would be an MSNBC commie. Dionne is just a liberal Catholic.
I guess we see what his real religion is.
As a serious Lutheran I do not accept the basis of the claim for papal authority. However, E. J. Dionne - who ought not be allowed by his editorial superiors even to undertake such an article - proposes what is sheer nonsense on any number of levels. The amount of thought he devoted to the article could be contained in a very, very small container. He is simply pandering to ill-thought out leftist sensibilities. As such it is shameful and insulting to any thinking Catholic, and thinking Catholics far, far outnumber the thinking Dionne’s of this world. So, for whatever it’s worth, my Catholic neighbors, you ought to be offended by such tripe. I am.
Honestly, he is just deranged and delusional.
Thank God the Holy Spirit is leading Christ’s Church and not this lost soul.
Advanced syphilis.
She has to be a Cardinal.
“The best choice for replacing E. J. Dionne a rational, thinking human being. God knows, hes nothing more than a chimpanzee.”
Insulting chimpanzees will not endear you to this crowd.
EJ needs a nun to rap his knuckles.
I wonder how these people think America ever became great. Or do they think we're great? I would think they don't.

American Nuns Hope For Sister-Friendly New Pope
by Barbie Latza Nadeau Feb 13, 2013 12:04 PM EST
American nunsfiercely condemned under Pope Benedict for being too radicalare looking forward to a fresh start with a new pontiff.
Of all the scandals that have been pinned to Benedict XVIs papacy, perhaps none has been more divisive than the so-called clampdown on American nuns last April. Its no wonder, then, that sisters across America are hoping that the next pope gives them a fairer shake. In an exclusive interview with The Daily Beast, the head of the largest group of American nuns shares what she is looking for in a new leader.
The American nun scandal came to a head last spring when the Vaticans Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued an eight-page doctrinal assessment of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), an umbrella group with more than 1,500 members representing 80 percent of American nuns. In it, they chastised the American sisters for pushing radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith. They also accused the sisters of staying silent on a number of the churchs teachings on sensitive topics like euthanasia, womens ordination, and same-sex marriage. A fierce backlash ensued when Father James Martin, a Jesuit priest and author of several faith-based books, called on the Twitterverse to start tweeting support for nuns under #whatsistersmeantome. More than a million tweets supporting the sisters followed. There is a danger of backlash because of the esteem [in which] so many Catholics hold nuns, Martin told The Daily Beast at the height of the scandal. For many Catholics, sisters are the glue that holds the church together.

Maybe the liberals are right about gun control. Here is one person who should not be trusted with pointy objects let alone a gun.
I’m all for well-read popes. But I also want them to be. . . how do I put this?. . . not too clueless about the realities of the world. Dolan is orthodox, but hasn’t impressed me as “getting it” really.
GAYNESS has infected the poor girl’s mind.
WHAT is there to GET??? Are you a Roman Catholic??
Come to think of it, the Apostle’s Creed ... “Our Father” ... implies that only a male can be the “Holy Father.”
Well, I sent my resume to the boys in the College of Cardinals. I think I’m a long shot...kind of a dark horse. I have a better chance for a second interview than almost any nun.
As a Lutheran, you might like this accurate depiction of the typical liberal reporter-

So true. Warning accepted.
Well I admit I haven’t been following him too closely but I like the fact that he has a big mouth. Benedict was like a zombie, I can’t remember the last time I heard that guy talk. With all the attacks Christians have to put up with today, I want somebody who is going to open their yap.
FR is simply not typified with folks like the spawn of the antichrist over at DU, Washington Post, and all the other Farleftwingtard extremists.
So, when was the last time a non-Cardinal became a Pope? Never?
Those leftists yelling “child molester” will be the first to support legalizing pedophilia I bet
Pope Alexander was a priest for one day and they made him pope. Very interesting guy ~ rather like a combination arbitrage manager, mafia don and guerrilla fighter who could also sail a ship, read, write, and more or less start sticking a small country together.
Yes it is. Blasphemy!
I am offended by all of these charlatans who live lives that could hardly survive the scrutiny of the humblest fellow Catholic, having the chutzpah to lecture the faithful on selection of the Pope.
There’s already been a female Pope - Olimpia Maidalchini, sister-in-law to Pope Innocent X, also known as “La Papessa”.
She basically became the papal gatekeeper, who controlled access to the Pope - kind of like how Valerie Jarrett controls a certain Kenyan Usurper.
Yeah, the group that hasn’t yet accepted civil divorce and remarriage along with birth control is going to jump right into ‘female Popes’. Not even priestesses, right into Popesses. OK.
Freegards, thanks for all the pings on FR
There have been eight Popes and Antipopes named Alexander.
Pope Alexander I (c. 106 c. 115)
Pope Alexander II (10611073)
Pope Alexander III (11591181)
Pope Alexander IV (12541261)
Antipope Alexander V (14091410) (Considered to be an Antipope; however, the next Pope Alexander took the name Alexander VI due to confusion over Alexander V’s status at the time.)
Pope Alexander VI (14921503)
Pope Alexander VII (16551667)
Pope Alexander VIII (16891691)
Preferably transgendered, of course.
Pope Benedict was right on in condemning the activities of many American nuns. They are subversive and have become destroyers of the faith. May God have mercy on them for the destruction they have wrought.
Creepy.
There have been 6, the last being Urban VI who was Pope from 1378 until 1389. If that seem distant, consider that the last Pope to resign did so in 1415.
I am surprised he didn’t nominate Whoopi Goldberg, who played a nun in a movie. Think of the “firsts” in that one......
What an annoying non-sequiter.
Rather than trying to ruin the Catholic church, why don't liberals just start their own religion made in their own image? They could call it Unitarianism or something and it could be just as indistinguishable from pop culture as they want it to be.
