None of this has anything to do with whether someone is a good or bad citizen of the US and does not diminish his right as a citizen to hold elective office in this country.

1raider1, I think you’re right about that. Any kind of argument about fitness for elective office should center on the candidate’s governing philosophy, their understanding of their responsibility and limits according to the Constitution, their past political record, future policy proposals...

And that’s quite enough. It doesn’t matter so much to me what their religious doctrine is, except as it may connect with their performance of public duty.

I’m not choosing a husband here, or a canonized saint. The requirements would be different.
