Mormons and Demons [Lds believe Lucifer REALLY is Jesus' -- and their -- literal 'brother']
American Spectator ^ | June 2012 | Jeremy Lott

Posted on 08/02/2012 3:35:51 PM PDT by Colofornian

...Mike Huckabee...candidate for the Republican nomination—was being pressed by a reporter for the New York Times Magazine about the religion of his rival, Willard Mitt Romney, before the 2008 Iowa caucuses. The reporter prodded Huckabee with an all-important question...: Mormonism—cult or religion?

...The Times noted that he asked with an “innocent voice” the following question: “Don’t Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?”

...A spokeswoman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said that while Mormons believe “all beings were created by God and are his spirit children,” Jesus Christ was the “only begotten in the flesh”; the “son of God”; and the “savior of mankind.”

SNIP

Theologically, the religion is almost uncategorizeable...They are best described not as polytheists but henotheists, because they seem to believe in more than one god but only worship one of them...Some of their temple-rituals hearken back to the mystery religions of the Roman empire...They reject the Trinity as firmly as they reject predestination.

...Mormons believe the church fell apart very early on, right around the end of the first century. They believe the church was reestablished by divine intervention through the prophecies and presence of Smith...

...it is drilled into them that their actions here on this earth really will affect their heavenly rewards hereafter. Speculation about what form those rewards might take is a perennial subject of mockery by critics of Mormonism. (“They think they’ll become gods! They’ll inherit their own planets!”)...

ROMNEY CAN BE protean and pragmatic when it comes to business and politics, but when the subject is Mormonism, he really believes the stuff...He has baptized the dead by proxy, but not “recently.” Mitt has tithed millions of dollars to the LDS church and spent years of his life volunteering as a missionary, bishop, and stake president.

Right, because we can see how the Inquisition caused Judaism and Islam to disappear.

Sigh...

The United States GOVERNMENT caused a major tenet of MORMONism to get thrown under the bus; so just IMAGINE what would have happened with a little bit of boiling oil, or red hot pokers!

Inasmuch as laws have been enacted by Congress forbidding plural marriage...
I hereby declare my intention to submit to those laws..."

The Doctrine and Covenants

Section 132

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded 12 July 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, and also the plurality of wives (see History of the Church, 5:501–7). Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, it is evident from the historical records that the doctrines and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831.
.
.
.
58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

58 Now, as touching the law of the apriesthood, there are many things pertaining thereunto.

59 Verily, if a man be called of my Father, as was aAaron, by mine own voice, and by the voice of him that bsent me, and I have endowed him with the ckeys of the power of this priesthood, if he do anything in my name, and according to my law and by my word, he will not commit dsin, and I will justify him.

60 Let no one, therefore, set on my servant Joseph; for I will justify him; for he shall do the sacrifice which I require at his hands for his transgressions, saith the Lord your God.

61 And again, as pertaining to the law of the priesthood—if any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse aanother, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else.

62 And if he have aten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.

63 But if one or either of the ten virgins, after she is espoused, shall be with another man, she has committed adultery, and shall be destroyed; for they are given unto him to amultiply and replenish the earth, according to my commandment, and to fulfil the promise which was given by my Father before the foundation of the world, and for their exaltation in the eternal worlds, that they may bear the souls of men; for herein is the work of my Father continued, that he may be bglorified.

64 And again, verily, verily, I say unto you, if any man have a wife, who holds the keys of this power, and he teaches unto her the law of my priesthood, as pertaining to these things, then shall she believe and administer unto him, or she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord your God; for I will destroy her; for I will magnify my name upon all those who receive and abide in my law.

65 Therefore, it shall be lawful in me, if she receive not this law, for him to receive all things whatsoever I, the Lord his God, will give unto him, because she did not believe and administer unto him according to my word; and she then becomes the transgressor; and he is exempt from the law of Sarah, who administered unto Abraham according to the law when I commanded Abraham to take aHagar to wife.

66 And now, as pertaining to this law, verily, verily, I say unto you, I will reveal more unto you, hereafter; therefore, let this suffice for the present. Behold, I am Alpha and Omega. Amen.

Funny stuff, Elsie.

It almost sounds like you are waxing nostalgic for the days when we could treat folks that way for belonging to different religion.

Do you want TESTIMONIES from EX-mormons about the effect?

If you have helped to dissuade people from the false teachings of the Mormon religion, which is a heresy and is wrong on the basic tenets of the Christian faith (the person and work of Christ, the Trinity, etc.)--fine, great, I'm with you. But you are *not* making convincing arguments about why Mormons should be excluded from holding political office. You are *not* being persuasive about why I should not vote for Romney simply because he is a Mormon. Mormonism as a false religion, and individual Mormons serving in political office--those are two different issues.

Do YOU want to vote for the guy; caring ONLY for the SECULAR things or do you want to factor in ETERNAL things?

Yes, actually, I do. For him doing a good job as President, I am only concerned about how well he does at that compared to the other guy (Obama). As far as Romney's eternal salvation, which is an entirely different question, there I would want him to repent of Mormonism's false beliefs and to believe the truth about Christ.

None of this has anything to do with whether someone is a good or bad citizen of the US and does not diminish his right as a citizen to hold elective office in this country.

You are correct. See my posts 14, 138, 145, and 164.

1raider1, I think you’re right about that. Any kind of argument about fitness for elective office should center on the candidate’s governing philosophy, their understanding of their responsibility and limits according to the Constitution, their past political record, future policy proposals...

And that’s quite enough. It doesn’t matter so much to me what their religious doctrine is, except as it may connect with their performance of public duty.

I’m not choosing a husband here, or a canonized saint. The requirements would be different.

Good!

I could hardly convince anyone anyway; but perhaps the Book might give clues as to just what type of person one would CHOOSE as their leader.

We moved just before the election, but we were sure glad to hear that Mitch IS your man.

There are a lot who do not claim him as such though.

I could never figure it out why...

When somebody of talent comes through and positively affects your life, many people will deny the effect of those talented ones. It sounds odd, but it is all too often true.

Christ was explaining the concept of his Gospel to Nicodemus.
