Mormons who fear Mitt: Young people...leaving...a Romney presidency will only make things worse
Salon ^ | April 27, 2012 | Troy Williams

“I would not vote for him just because he is Mormon. I want to know what he is going to do for the people. I want to see the compassion.”

Gladys Knight is not voting for Mitt Romney. In a recent interview with BET the famed singer, herself a Mormon...

You see, last time a Republican was president, he became just about the least popular person in the world. So some Mormons are a little bit nervous that having one of their own in the White House could interfere with the church’s true mission of spreading the gospel — something with which it has already been having recent troubles.

“Mitt Romney is having a terrible impact on how we are perceived,” explained Brigham Young University law student Marshall Thompson, a former intern to Orrin Hatch, an Iraq vet and a faithful Mormon — the type of person, in other words, you’d expect to be part of Romney’s base. “I’m told he’s a very nice person in real life,” Thompson continues, “but he comes across as out-of-touch, materialistic and disingenuous.”

...Romney’s candidacy comes at a time when Mormonism itself is facing a similar crisis of likability.

Mormon leader Marlin Jensen has recently acknowledged that Latter-day Saints are leaving the fold in droves. The former church historian spoke frankly to...students at Utah State University, saying, “We’ve never had a period of — I’ll call it apostasy — like we’re having now.”

Church leaders never anticipated the Internet generation would access their history online. Joseph Smith used magic stones to see into the past. Today, young Mormons use Google. When they discover that their founding prophet wedded several teenage girls, it is often a traumatic revelation. Mormons experience a crisis of trust, if not outright betrayal, from their leaders.

Mitt and his cronies can bring this to a big screeching halt right now by dropping out.

Hold your breath, the announcement should be coming over the wires any second now.

One was sufficient for my point. It has you barking at the end of your chain.

Mitt gives $7 million a year to the Mormon Church. I wonder if these isolated critics contribute at least 10% of their earnings to the church they profess to speak for.

You do know the Mitt supporters are going to be voting FOR his friend Lugar, right?

They'll cheat to win too.

Four more years of Obama and the country is finished. Obamacare will be implemented, which will be the final nail in the coffin of this country. And there will be an amnesty.

Mitt's refusal to give it up and go home now is going to give the election away to Obama. That will mean that the Mormons have destroyed the Jews in Israel and participated in the murder of millions of babies.

We need a REAL Republican and a REAL Conservative to run for Presidency. Going out there with our weakest possible candidate is STUPID!

No, actually, I did not hear that. You no doubt have actually asked them, the vast majority of voters there, and concluded that to be the case, i am impressed.

They'll cheat to win too.

Yeah, probably so. After all, they do have the market on satanic rituals, eating aborted babies, spreading leprosy to the unwashed masses, and lying on their tax forms under control and mastered.

Agreed, just saying that at least my co-worker was honest about it, that's all, where many others just beat around the bush. At least he told the truth and many time, the truth is something that you might not like. I'm also just saying that people do have the right to voted that way if they want, but I'm not for it personally and I'm glad many/most do not either and vote for the best candidate who will support the Constitution and America.

As you mentioned it, if a prominent person who was White said, "vote for Mitt Romney because he's White," that will be news for months and months, the legs that story will get will be so long that it will still be walkin' by November.

Too bad the race hustlers keep pimping to the point where most Blacks have a chip on their shoulder but it is also up to them to lose that chip.

Interesting that the uber-journalists at Salon waited until AFTER Mittens was the putative nominee to discover he was a Mormon.

You would think that they could have written this article months ago, but they didn't think of it until now.

So amazing.

“Mitt gives $7 million a year to the Mormon Church. I wonder if these isolated critics contribute at least 10% of their earnings to the church they profess to speak for.”

1. To qualify for Temple Recommend, active mormons are required to pay a 10% tithe, plus fast offerings, plus callings, which translates to free service to the cult in any capacity mormon leadership say the holy ghost has ordered you to perform. If there is a dispute over whether a mormon has fulfilled his duty in this regard, it is not unheard of for a bishop to ask for W-2s. And then the holy ghost may speak through him and say you have a calling to clean the toilets, and give his nephew a job. Oh, and bring ten pounds of ground round to the church picnic. Denying a calling is Not A Good Thing.

2. If a mormon is disobedient in these or a host of other matters, and is denied his Temple Recommend, it means he does not have the Masonic hokey-pokey in hula skirts performed that magically open their Celestial Kingdom version of the Pearly Gates when he dies, in the afterlife he will be separated from his family members, and he will never be a God and get to create his own human beings he can personally mind-f*ck with mormonism and throw lightning bolts at, mormon wives don’t get to follow their God-Husbands to Planet Kolob (following him twelve light years behind) ;^)

By the time you’re dedicated enough to mormonism for the TR to even matter, obeying tithing, offering, and calling requirements is no longer so much a choice, but a pillar of your world, without which, you lose your godhood, your salvation, your life, all your friends, and for some people their business contacts, or their job. I can give you links to a Mormon professor who lost his job at an LDS school because required for the job was a mormon with a temple recommend, he lost his TR over a tithing/offering dispute, and lost his job, became a Christian and published all.

If Romney is where he is in the mormon hierarchy (and he is) then his “giving”, isn’t really charity as it’s commonly understood. It’s more the cost of doing business.

BTW crime story aficionados who have studied how the Mafia has a chain of money and “favors” running up the chain of command may identify remarkable similarities...

Just Sayin’... ;^)
