“And the Catechism is no help . . . it depends on which page one wants to declare the more authoritative.”

Which is why you go out of your way to cite another book as authoritative? That’s not a very good argument. If, as you say, the catechism doesn’t present an accurate picture as to what Catholicism teaches, why would this book you cite be more authoritative? It doesn’t make sense.

The correct argument is to address this assertion. Where do you believe that the catechism is flawed?

INDEED.

Most of the RC’s I meet—their Roman Catholicism is basically a socal in-group designation.

Most of us have read 100’s of pages of official Roman Catholic dogma hereon by now.

We are not that ignorant of the RCC’s official teachings.

Weasel worded diplo speak dressed up in Pharisaical garb has NEVER impressed me—particularly theologically.

Ferarro’s book displays the kind of outrageously unBiblical RC mentality we Proddys have to confront hereon daily.

It’s one of the better summaries of a lot of the outrageousness of the Maryolatry stuff that I’ve found, to date.

In it’s being rife with doublespeak and contradictions.

However, I’ve not waded through it yet . . . just stuck my toe in it, so to speak.

I don’t know when I’ll get to that task.

It’s not an attractive one.

The internal fights inside WELS is amazing. I have family that are members, and they are not sure if they can commune with another pastor in the same parish!

Some of it is, but not all of it.

There would be real issues for me. Part of which is that what is down on paper saying “The Catholic church believes X and always has!” doesn’t match up in history. Not to mention the wide spread in practice and teaching on the parish level.

To the contrary, now they understand what Jesus meant when He said, “whom the Son sets free, is free indeed.” We’re free from religious bondage, legalism, ritual, fear, and false teaching. Jesus Christ instantaneous set me free from 10 years of addiction. Religion, secular programs, psychologists, and psychiatrists all failed. I “know in Whom I have believed,” know and sense His presence everyday. I give Him all the glory and the church none.

**“believe in your heart and proclaim with your mouth”.**

You’re using a passage from Romans 10. That was written people that were already born again. “To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints..” Rom. 1:7
They were already baptized. Rom. 6:3,4

**The physical act of baptism does NOT was away the stain of sin.**

Ananias to Saul(Paul): “And why tarriest thou? arise and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord”. Acts 22:16

“Repent, and be baptized EVERY ONE of YOU in the NAME of JESUS CHRIST for the REMISSION of SINS...”. Acts 2:38

IMO, you’re stuck in the tradition of men.

>>They were already baptized. Rom. 6:3,4<<

I understand what you are saying but I was hoping to use an analogy of the “believe in your heart” and “believe and be baptized” meaning that the believing part is what saves and the “confess with your mouth” is an outward confession as is baptism. I may not have conveyed my thoughts well.

And IMO you are stuck under the law. I’ll choose Grace.

Churches are primarily made up of

and expressed and dcemonstrated by

. . . their members.

That’s what the reported members display here, in abundance.

Myopic. horrific.

As well as rank hypocrisy.

Yep...that’s about how I see it. If they’d just stick to the scriptures truth and drop the traditions of men Christ spoke against. Though there is so much of the catholic church that flies in the face of the Christ I know. Even with many well meaning catholics explaining why they believe what they do...it just doens’t stand the test of scripture, which God gave us as his ultimate authority.
