I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! (Job 19:25-27)

Dear Father, we thank You for this day and all its blessings.

Lord, we gather in prayer for our military, who serve so willingly and so faithfully. We pray for those who have been sent abroad, that You would watch over their homes and families. Please keep all that they have left behind, and bring them back to it with great joy.

Lord, You are the only life and the only joy, and yet we need to be driven to You. Even after we become Christians, it's so easy, when You give us good things, to be absorbed in them rather than You. So we pray for ourselves, and for all Your people in the affluent West and especially in America. Help us to remember, in all our blessings of prosperity and freedom, to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness.

Father, we know that our Redeemer died, and we know that He lives. This is the promise and the great hope You have given us—that after our lives are over and our flesh is destroyed, we will see God. We have believed without seeing, but someday we will see Jesus with our own eyes. We yearn for that day and we thank You for it now, in the Name of Jesus, Amen.

GEORGE WASHINGTON – THE PRAYER AT VALLEY FORGE

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise for our heroes in the American military who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your healing wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Amen.
