That is the rude part right there, it is unfair to use Mormon teachings and doctrines to gin up a discussion about their beliefs.
That is the rude part right there, it is unfair to use Mormon teachings and doctrines to gin up a discussion about their beliefs.
Ps 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
Isaiah 44:6, 8:
44:6: Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
44:8: Fear ye not, neither be afraid; have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
I know you didn’t say “other”. That’s why I asked.
***Shall we have threads calling Seventh-day Aventists “stupid” and not Christians, because they believe in worshipping on a different day than Baptists and Lutherans do?****
How about when Adventists refuse to help two little boys caught out in a rainstorm like they did here!
These two liitle boys about 8 and 10 years of age came to my house drenched because none of the SDA people around here would help them because it was a saturday sabbath.
We dried the children off and got them home while the SDA people sat all smug knowing they were better than us “Porkrinds” because THEY were keeeping the sabbath.
>> You THINK wrong. <<
Hey, hey, hey. Pull back on the in-your-face debate tactics. I emphasized “think” because I was less trying to make an assertion than offer a possible interpretation. It did seem that he quotes offered as evidence were fuzzy as to which person of the trinity was being referred to, and that’s all I was trying to point out.
It sounds like you were unambigously taught a specific heresy (heretical to orthodox Christianity, that is) that the article is trying hard to assert is Mormon teaching; you might have put that in an introductory post, even.
>> Don’t we all to some sense? How many Southern Baptists did this with Hucabee? <<
I sure wish to God that Romney had been chosen over McCain, whom 0bama managed to run to the right of. And I haven’t made too many Mormon friends on FR, if you know what I mean.
>> Shall we have threads calling Seventh-day Aventists stupid and not Christians, <<
Boy, if ever there was a denomination whose members on FR and whose theology made that a tempting offer, it’d be the Adventists.
And I reemphasized the "THINK" because your explanation is not one that Mormons use.
The Mormons teach that God (the Father) has a body just like Jesus. What they taught me (and what has been the historical teaching of the Mormon church since about 1840) was that God (The Father) got his body when he lived a good life and paid his tithes and was married in the temple and eventually died and was resurrected on another planet somewhere in the Universe. After he had lived and died and was resurrected on another planet, he was ultimately exalted (by the Council of the Gods) to the position of God over the Earth and given the opportunity to people it with his spiritual children.
I was not trying to be "in your face". I was simply pointing out that your speculation was not founded on fact.
The same can be said of most non-Mormons. Therer are lots of dishonest mormons, as well. Did you know that Utah ranks #1 for per capita financial fraud?
No, where I disagree with them on this doctrine is that it is totally unBiblical, and completely contradicts what the Bible says about both God and man.
Still, I'm glad to ally with them on the political points that we can agree on.
23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
God sends no one to Hell. In His infinite love, He allows them to choose to go by rejecting His freely offered grace.
I don't mind people criticizing the Southern Baptist, my own “spiritual heritage”, so why would I mind them (or me)criticizing the Mormons, the Catholics, the JWs, the Jews, or the Muslims?
Not one reason I can think of.
Probably less than you would think. After all, we've had Carter and Clinton. For the record, I voted against both. As for Huckabee, he was way down my list, just above McCain and Guiliani. So by the time we held our primaries, just about everyone else had dropped out, inclucing thte Huck. I voted for him anyway, as I preferred him to anybody left standing at that point. My first choice was Fred Thompson.
I like Twain's fictional writings and humor but before you accept his theological views on Mormonism I would recommend you lookup some of his views on Chrisitianity and organized religion (and more sepcifically Presbyteryianism) before deciding his view is correct. IE he has a lot of negative things to say about "orthodox" Christianity as well as Mormonism.
I have read Twain's "Roughing It" and what I find interesting is I doubt Twain seriously read the BoM. For example he discusses verses from Jacob chapter 2 and raises questions that are answered in the verse below the one he quoted. IOW, it seems he didn't really take the trouble to read it carefully or he would realize his own question was answered. It appears he started out with a thesis and finds some citations to fit that thesis.
He does the same thing to Presbyteryianism but I doubt anyone here on FR has the desire to publish his critical remmarks there. IOW, Lets selectively quote Twain when he bashes mormons but not when he was bashing more "orthodox" religions.
Utah is only 60% Mormon. Its why SLC is turning into just another liberal cesspoll. I'd be interested in seeing that actual breakdown of who is committing the fraud. I'm guessing it's not mostly Mormons who are the most Republican group in the nation but rather the liberal, DEM groups in Utah. As a former cop I would say that some Mormons are way to trusting even naive about crime, making them easy targets, IE Elizabeth Smarts parents.
That is a nice platitude. The cold hard fact of the matter is that God does send people to Hell.
Then He will say to those on His left, Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels! (Matthew 25:41)
Hell is not for volunteers. When you stand before God, he does not ask you where you want to go. Nobody is volunteering to go to Hell. If they end up there it is because God sends them there.
Carry on.
Discuss THIS, you.. you.. GENTILE you!
WHY do you hate us SO much that you'd post GENUINE LDS teachings out of context so that it makes us look like IDIOTS???
