Fr. Jorge again said that Rome has no jurisdiction, no competence over what goes on in the United States, that it is the matter for Bishop Lynch. I told him Bp. Lynch wasn't doing anything and Fr. Jorge said he was sorry that this was so hard on so many faithful in the U.S. but Rome nor the Pope nor Cd. Ratzinger could tell Bp. Lynch in his See (St. Petersburg, Fla.) what do so about this matter.

I guess he does not have an opinion that could be stated either!!! So maybe concerning other issues like the death penalty they will keep silent from now on!

Terri Schiavo's plight is only one of the many evil consequences of the apostasy of American Bishops.

What nonsense! The American Catholic Bishops are responsible for Terri Schiavo's "plight"?

Barbara Kralis has let her emotions get the better of her.

Two verses come to mind...

You shall know them by the fruit they bear.

and

Whitewashed tombs full of dead man's bones and everything unclean.

Continual prayers to our Lord God for Terri.

they [protestants]are unable to convince the masses to the truths which they don't possess nor teach,

they'll [protestants]never be capable of making true change

Catholics are leaving the True Church

Gee, thanks loads Barbara. I'm a protestant and I really find this kind of language unproductive.

I am Catholic and I have great love for protestants. My best friend in Evangelical and one of the holiest people I know. So please don't let one person rock your boat.

I think their has been such wonderful unity with Catholics and Protestants as never seen before. Praise God!

If leadership is to be shown on these issues, it will not come from the bishops.

If Terri Schiavo's life is saved, it will be no thanks to them. Our prayers will do far more than all the position papers of episcopal conferences ever will.

IMO: how you could call THAT particular human "father" is totally beyond me. "animal" seems a more-fitting term. There is only One Father.

That "Rome has no jurisdiction over what goes on in the United States" sounds like absolute bulls**t to me. And the biggest lie going. If that's the case, why was there all the flying back & forth to Rome when all the major child-touching news was hitting the media?

Sadly, plain and simple, it seems more like "money talks" rather than "Jesus said". Maybe it's true that they can't _order_ Lynch to do anything, but having John Paul mention the matter in a speech/press release/encyclical/whatever would certainly bring it to the attention of the many many Roman Catholics who probably haven't even heard about Terri's case.

Just because no one in the church has any authority in this case doesn't mean they can't be VOCAL about it - maybe it will cause others to start something ex cathedra (then those gangsters could still claim their lily-white hands had nothing to do with it if they're so afraid of rocking the boat).

Maybe the box you check-off on your weekly envelope doesn't have enough zeros in it to suit George?

Thank you, Diamond. I really appreciate your kind words. I guess I'm sensitive because not long ago I stood on the "Chain of Life" with a Catholic guy who spent the entire time telling me how his religion was the "only way."

I think our causes are so important and we should step back and be grateful for ALL believers who share the same goals.

Anyway, thanks again.

I don't know *what* she expects The Pope to do right now. By many accounts he is nearing death's door himself.

During many impending death penalty cases and during the Iraq war, the Vatican was able to find the time to make forceful repeated vocal public statements. Even if it does NOT come from JPII directly, they should, when requested, intercede in a case like this considering that they have repeatedly, when requested, interceded in death penalty cases, and when not requested, interceded in the Iraq war.

I doubt JPII is aware of the Schiavo case.

But Ratzinger's office is.

Obviously, the Vatican has written off the American Catholic church, which is in undeclared schism, is indeed apostate and is no longer Roman Catholic. As this author rightfully points out.

There is a reality here. I saw a poster who suggested that, unless Governor Jeb Bush (a Catholic, btw) didn't due his duty and protect this disabled women from being starved to death that Jeb ought never get another vote. I agree. What then of the Shepherds God placed over Jeb and the rest of Florida. In my opinion, THEY and their priests and deacons ought to be surrounding the hospital and making this THE issue. Florida ought to be threatened with an interdict -- protect this women and all life or the Sacraments would be suspended for a set period of time as a penance. They cannot do the work of God by ignoring this kind of hideous death.

Babs is nuts, and so are you, if you agree with her. The Vatican has not "written off" Catholics in America.

It is the bishop's responsibility to deal with this, not the Pope's.

Failure to prevent the death of another human being when one is able is a mortal sin, is it not? This strikes me as being on the level of the pro-abort politicians. Too bad Bishop Weigand of Sacramento isn't Jeb's bishop.

"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out --
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the communists
and I did not speak out --
because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out --
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me --
and there was no one left to speak out for me."
~~Pastor Martin Niemoller
(victim of the Nazis)

Is there anything we can learn from this?
When they came for the Catholics?
When they came for the Baptists?
When they came for the fundamentalists?
When they came for the agnostics?
When they came for the physically disabled?
When they came for the mentally disabled?

Just something for all of us to think about -- is this picture larger than we currently see it?

Really "Deacon"? EVERY CATHOLIC IN FLORIDA would KNOW they needed to get involved RIGHT NOW if such an action were taken. It has been used in the history of the Church, it is within the authority of the hierarchy. Hear that hollow echo "deacon". Bizarre indeed.

"Deacon" sinky calls my view "bizarre", I agree with yours -- does that make your view "bizarre" too?
