One of your parents might be Jewish but you can not by definition be "half Jewish," like you can be "half Italian" or something. According to Halacha, if your mother was Jewish, you are a Jew. If your father was not, you are not unless you undergo formal conversion.

How many "half Catholics" do you know?

Jewish is a religious conciseness. Hebrew is a genetic one. You can be an ethnic Hebrew and not Jewish.

I think in only the Germanic languages like English and German is Jew used as an ethnic identifier. In most European langauges, Romance, Slavic, Greek variations of the word Hebrew is used as the proper word.

Has the Halacha been translated as Jewish in English when it should be Hebrew?

I understand what you and courier are saying about the Israeli pilots operating in "good faith" and carrying out the assault in response to what they felt may be a dangerous target vessel.

I definitely take exception with the title, however, and am not labelling the NSA as a doctorer of communications recorded that day. Blame that on my 8th grade english teacher. Clarity of thought is sometimes lost when emotions are invoked.

I really don't think "anti-Semitism" is an issue for most people when they're determining where to come down on this story. A lot of people simply are not willing to assume that our own survivors are liars.

It's from Ha'aertz. They make the New York Times look like a bastion of conservatism. Personally, I'll listen to the judge, but not through Ha'aertz's filter.

Ask any lawyer or judge or police officer about the veracity (or lack thereof) of first person accounts.

Yeah, rapid succession events under high stress stack up in the brain, get mixed in order, forgotten, confused with other experiences, things imagined... the bad info re-ingrained by recounting in the calmer time afterwards (and still we execute people on one eye witness but that's a side rant)
