One is "explosive liquid", and the other is "Insecticide".

Accident Cleared; Turnpike Traffic Resumes

Truck Overturned Near Ohio Line

UPDATED: 6:24 p.m. EST February 7, 2003
BEAVER, Pa. -- A Friday morning accident halted traffic along the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Traffic in both directions was closed for several hours.

At 7:14 a.m., a 13-mile section of the turnpike between the Gateway and New Castle exits was closed in both directions. Crews worked to clean up explosive liquid spilled when one of two trailers being pulled by a truck flipped about three miles from the Ohio border. Pennsylvania Turnpike spokesman Bill Capone said hazardous materials teams were called to the scene. The turnpike was open in both directions by Friday afternoon. Travelers using the turnpike should call (800) 331-3414 to check conditions, officials said.

THE SECOND ITEM

right-click on the picture- assuming it is already on some other web site...and a menu will pop up that says "properties." Click on that and you'll get a pop up with the image's URL. Copy that by highlighting it with the mouse- make sure you get all of it since sometimes you can't see it all.

Then when you post, use this:

<p><img src="http://www.yourpictureURL.jpg">

But your picture does have to be on the web someplace- you can't just post it while it's only on your computer.

My family biz (also in PA), where I work, has a lot of hazardous chemicals. I was amazed when I was told that if a 55 gallon drum of MEK or acetone were to overturn, the area up to a few miles radius would have to be evacuated. We have tons of nasty stuff. If there's a fire in one of the warehouses, we are told just to RUN!

Turnpike Reopens After 18 Hour Closure

Fire Burns Through Night

POSTED: 10:57 p.m. EST February 6, 2003

UPDATED: 5:34 p.m. EST February 7, 2003

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike has reopened Friday afternoon after part of the road was closed for almost 18 hours.

A tractor-trailer caught fire around 8 p.m. Thursday when a break fire ignited the load between exit 19, Harrisburg East, and exit 20, the Lancaster-Lebanon exit. The rig was carrying pesticides.

The Department of Environmental Protection said the tractor-trailer was carrying 5,000 pounds of a liquid herbicide and about 1,000 pounds of a corrosive, which is what caught fire.

"We knew there was some pesticides, some chemicals on there. First thing is we take the defensive mode. We've got to think about the environment. If we go pour water on that, we're going to have runoff," Hershey Fire Chief Pat Leonard said.

Fire crews didn't want to risk contaminated creeks. They also worried for their own safety. With all the chemicals burning, residents were warned not to come outside. Firefighters didn't want to get close. They stayed 300 yards back and watched it burn.

"Hurry up and wait, that's the thing about hazardous materials incidents. It's either going to be a short-lived incident or it's going to be a long-term event," Leonard said.

When the fire finally went out Friday morning, crews from the Environmental Protection Agency determined the air was safe.

Hazmat teams in protective gear put out the final hot spots with sand and fire retardant, and removed the debris, including the remains of the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the big rig was able to escape unharmed. Jeffrey Landis, a state trooper, was taken to a hospital for chemical exposure, as well as smoke inhalation. State police said he was released early Friday morning and is doing well.

FedEx acquires American Freightways
http://www.oakridger.com/stories/111300/bus_1113000017.html

The Associated Press
FedEx Corp. announced today it would acquire American Freightways in a billion dollar move that would expand FedEx's next-day regional freight capability.

Harrison, Ark.-based American Freightways is the fourth-largest less-than-truckload carrier in the nation. FedEx, based in Memphis, Tenn., already owns Viking Freight, and the combination of Viking and American will create the nation's second-largest less-than-truckload carrier.

American Media. American Airlines. American Freightways. Yes, they are literalists in executing their orders, if there was any reason to believe this incident fit the pattern.
