It's Samantha Burns' birthday today. She would have been 20 years old

What a sad day for her family. I pray every day that both Alice and Samantha will be found.

It surprised me to realize that it's been only five months since Alice and Samantha were taken away. Somehow it seems so much longer.

How much worse it must be for their families.

More indictments issued in missing woman case
Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. -A federal grand jury has issued several more indictments against two men accused of kidnapping and killing a Galivants Ferry woman.

The indictments issued Wednesday also includes eight special findings that prosecutors can use to justify seeking the death penalty against the pair.

Chadrick Fulks, 25, and Branden Basham, 21, have already been charged with carjacking and kidnapping resulting in death in connection with the disappearance of Alice Donovan, last seen in November in the parking lot of a Conway Wal-Mart.

On Wednesday, the grand jury added two firearm charges and two conspiracy charges against each man, U.S. Attorney Strom Thurmond Jr. said.

Fulks and Basham escaped from a Kentucky jail in early November and were charged later in a five-state crime spree.

A grand jury in North Carolina has also indicted the pair on kidnapping and murder charges. Authorities say the men took Donovan and her BMW to the state after she was abducted.

Authorities have not decided where the men will be tried first.

Thurmond said he will ask U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft to give him permission to seek the death penalty against Fulks and Basham.

MISSING WOMAN
Search for Donovan fruitless
Officials comb rural area after getting 'credible lead'
By Kenneth A. Gailliard and Dave Gustafson
The Sun News

Authorities came up empty Thursday in a rural Horry County search for Alice Donovan, a missing Galivants Ferry woman.

The five-hour search took place in a remote wooded area for Donovan, who was kidnapped in November from the parking lot of the Conway Wal-Mart.

Police said it was the most extensive search since Thanksgiving Day, when one of Donovan's suspected kidnappers spent the day trying to help police find her.

"This search had no more significance than the other searches," said Tom O'Neill, spokesman for the FBI in Columbia.

He declined to offer details about the information on which the search was based.

"It was a lead we thought was credible," he said.

News of the search briefly raised hopes among Donovan's family members, said her sister Judy Ezell of Colorado.

"It leaves me with mixed feelings," Ezell said. "On one hand, I'm really, really hoping to have her home. On the other hand, I'm relieved. I think denial is still needed."

The search involved officers from the FBI, the State Law Enforcement Division and the Conway and Horry County police departments, said Conway police Lt. Rodney Sessions.

Sessions couldn't say whether officers would return today to the area.

The search took place several miles down the dirt Long Bay Road off S.C. 90, about a half-mile northwest of S.C. 31.

Branden Basham, 21, and Chadrick Fulks, 25, have been charged in Donovan's disappearance and are facing federal and state charges that include carjacking resulting in death, kidnapping resulting in death, interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle and several conspiracy charges.

Since his arrest, Basham has told police at least six versions of what happened to Donovan and where her body could be found, police said.

In his latest version relayed on Thanksgiving, Basham said Fulks raped and strangled Donovan in the back seat of her car, then her body was dumped in the Winnabow, N.C., area.

Federal prosecutors expect within about 30 days to seek authorization from the U.S. Attorney General to seek the death penalty against the men.

Prosecutors from the Carolinas are working together to seek the death penalty for both men in what they said would be an "unprecedented" joint prosecution in North Carolina.

Both men would face the death penalty if convicted of murder in Brunswick County, authorities said.

Alice Donovan, 42, of Galivants Ferry has been missing since Nov. 14. A pair of escapees from a Kentucky jail are suspected of abducting her from the Conway Wal-Mart parking lot during a crime spree that police have said spanned at least five states.

And everybody,

I got the new pages up on Alice's site just in time for her Birthday today.

I actually DID it. *I* did it. A friend of Country Lady fixed my broken mess when I deleted a bunch of files and couldn't make anything show on line, But the rest was up to me and YES I'm shining my badge lol!! :)

It's only taken me 3 months or so to figure it out, but I did it and I'm proud. I have lots to learn about design (among other things), but at least I can get pages up there now, and I can edit them and they show up and they look the way they were intended to look (in my browser anyway) :)

Got some new pictures and some music too.

Things will move along much faster now.

PL, you've done an absolutely incredible job with Alice's website! The pictures and the music moved me to tears - Alice's love for her family and her gardens comes through so clearly. Lori has a lovely voice, and "The Rose" is a perfect choice - it's also one of my favorite songs and hereafter I will always think of Alice when I hear it.

The website is a wonderful way for those of us who were never privileged to meet Alice in person to touch a part of her life. You've created a beautiful tribute to her, PL, and how appropriate that it would be today, on her birthday. Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing Alice with us.

I continue to pray for all of you every day.
