The same people who assured us the beltway sniper was an angry white male are certain last fall's anthrax letters were mailed by an angry white male, and that the Oklahoma City bombing of April 19, 1995, was the work only of angry white males. Others aren't so sure.

The FBI is looking for an angry white male.

There is more than simply FBI incompetence going on here. Bush could have pulled the rug out from under Operation Amerithrax, the FBI's alleged investigation of the anthrax, at any time during the past twelve months. Just a single phone call would have done it. Why hasn't that happened?

It hasn't happened because the administration is a hundred-percent behind Operation Amerithrax and it's "rogue white male" line of baloney. Saddam Hussein hit us good on 9/11. He followed it up with a threat: point the finger at me, and you'll regret it ("THIS IS NEXT WE HAVE THIS ANTHRAX YOU CAN NOT STOP US"). There is nothing Bush can do about that threat, which is well-conceived, just as 9-11 was well-conceived, in pure military terms. Bush knows the meaning of that powder. It means that, if he tries to kill Saddam, millions of Americans will die. In other words, it means we are f***ed. Saddam has the keys to the kingdom. This is Clinton's real legacy (which he perfectly understands, BTW, if you listen to him speak).

Bottom line is, there is no way we are going to hear the truth on the anthrax any time soon.

I dunno that we will never hear the story.

In fact, I would be willing to bet that the Post story referenced in the above editorial was deliberately planted by Administration officials to further the process of demonizing Saddam (as though this needs re-inforcement.)

It's also possible that the story was planted as a misdirection ploy, telling the REAL perp that the Feds are on the trail of Saddam, hoping that the real perp relaxes and screws up.

In any case, the "profilers" need serious remedial education. A dozen or so years on street-cop duty would be a GREAT start.

If the FBI paid less attention to its profilers

The FBI is indoctrinated with PC by the ADL. The ADL brags about this.
