Please Rise for 'The World Anthem'

"The World Anthem" - described as a musical composite of the world's 193 national anthems - offers "hope for a more peaceful world," according to the Colorado-based think tank that helped create the song and now is trying to make it a hit.

The MindShare Foundation of Fort Collins says the two-minute-long anthem -- created by a Denver music producer with help from an artificial intelligence computer -- "reflects the combined voice of all nations." It is "based on the common notes and musical tendencies" of all nations' national anthems, according to the group's website.

The anthem has been performed at various events around the world, and MindShare says it will be performed again in connection with a Sept. 11 observance in Hong Kong.

Ed Goodman, MindShare's executive director, called the anthem "a song that can be shared, celebrated and performed by people throughout the world in celebration of the heritage of all nations and peoples and a hope for a brighter future."

The "Mindshare Foundation describes itself as a think tank that supports and promotes socially conscious ideas. It says its goal is to see the widespread use of "The World Anthem."

Working toward that goal, on Sept. 11, MindShare plans to launch a Student Ambassadors program, which is intended to help Colorado public school students gain a better understanding of different cultures.

"We envision students from the world over translating 'The World Anthem' into their own languages, performing it at public events and taking part in an in-depth, web-enabled cultural exchange designed to increase cultural and international understanding," Goodman said.

Goodman said the program will honor the diversity of the world's people while recognizing "the common bonds international cultures share."

In its press release, MindShare quotes one Colorado public school superintendent who says he's glad his school system is taking part in the Student Ambassadors program.

"We are excited to be involved with a worldwide outreach program that promotes and celebrates diverse cultures and nations joining for peace," said Don Unger, superintendent of the Poudre School District in Fort Collins.

MindShare's website touts "the universal language of music," and it expresses MindShare's desire to "give the world a gift" -- "The World Anthem."

"Donate $16 and receive a CD," the website says. "Your tax deductible contribution will help us distribute "The World Anthem" and develop our youth ambassadors of peace global outreach programs."

The website also sells "Wage Peace" T-shirts.

And somewhere, P.T. Barnum is smiling as he is proven right yet again.

Haven't we already been down this road before???

It's a small world after all.

I'd like to teach the world to sing (in perfect harmony)

We are the world

Sorry Joe. I can put my $16 to a lot better use than this.

It is pathetic that any American group would want to be a part of this. We, who always treated the rest of the world with respect, so long as they respected our rights, need to hold our heads high and celebrate our own heritage; not try to homogenize it with every nastier intentioned, less successful, Society on earth.

If this group gets a Corporate sponsor, that Corporate sponsor should expect a boycott from those who understand how destructive this sort of nonsense is. Its whole thrust is directed towards effectuating a surrender of what was won for us in the Revolution, and recognized in the Treaty of Paris (1783). For people enjoying the protection of American law and defense, to be promoting this, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

Think Tanks are O.K., but it's a good idea to open a window once in a while.

They were probably sitting around in the "Tank" wondering what they could do to get posted on FR....and suddenly...

since when does a "gift" cost $16???

When its a Love Gift from your local television evangelist. Of course, they usually charge considerably more for their prayer cloths and Plastic Jesus figurines (suitable for mounting on your dashboard).

John Lennon was singing "Give peace a chance", and "Imagine" on a sidewalk in N.Y., just before some psycho blew him away.

"When they say peace peace, then cometh sudden destruction." Thank God the sixties died and where buried on 9/11.

Well, if they start playing this anthem before baseball games, I guess that would be a good time to go to the bathroom. (And don't choke on that hot dog!)

One of the greatest..........and definitely most underrated or under-appreciated.............guitarists of all time did this far, FAR better back in the '70's. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Frank Marino of Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, "World Anthem":
