Instead of investing in 3 guns, he should have payed his child support.
He also should have considered getting a second job.

If you fall behind on your child support payments, you too can expect to be surrounded by a SWAT team and FBI agents. For the children.

You are the one who can't read. It is interesting to see just where you cut the text in your excerpt:

Morales had appeared on "America's Most Wanted" in connection with the attempted slaying of five deputy sheriffs in Pennsylvania who tried to arrest him on accusations of failing to pay child support. (And then lied about the shootout, besides.)

Morales had appeared on "America's Most Wanted" in connection with the attempted slaying of five deputy sheriffs in Pennsylvania who tried to arrest him on accusations of failing to pay child support. A telephone tip led city and state police and the FBI to the parking lot in Hartford's Westbrook Village housing complex.

The Sheriff's deputies were different from the SWAT team.

The deputies were trying to arrest him for child support and he shot at them. I don't see the defense.

And they then lied about the shooting to get his story on America's Most Wanted, hence the SWAT/FBI treatment.

They didn't lie about the shooting.

Yes they did lie about it, they said five shots were fired, which is why he faced five counts of attempted murder. But the police have inconsistent and changing stories, and the evidence is that he only fired once. That means the police agents are lying, and under color of authority, no less.

Meanwhile, I forgot to congratulate you on your skillful excision of the part about child support payments from the original article. Well cut!

If the child support was no big deal, why did he shoot at them?

I don't know. I don't know the guy. I wasn't there. But I do know that we live in an out-of-control police state in an out-of-control dictatorship when it comes to child support. This looks unique, but I can assure you that this sort of thing happens all the time. I suppose the only reason they're reporting it is that there is a spin at least (true or not) that makes him look like the bad guy. Some states take away a guy's license to have a gun if he's behind in his child support (so they can shoot him without resistence) along with his drivers and professional licenses and passport.

I'm sorry that police and sheriffs etc. are forced to be involved with the child support system. I haven't done a formal survey, but I am quite confident that most of them don't want to be involved with it. It's designed to threaten a man's life and there's often nothing the man can do about it. His life is over as soon as they get his name and SS#. It doesn't take Sigmund Freud to figure out that a significant percent are going to fight back, no matter who comes-a-callin' It's fight or flight and sometimes both. It's too bad the people who decide these things aren't required to make the arrests. Maybe getting shot at regularly would give them a deeper understanding of public opinion.

Better than having shot Twice.

Drebin: Where were you when all this happened?
Sally: I was right here at my desk, working.
Drebin: And when was the first time you noticed something was wrong?
Sally: Well, when I first heard the shot... and as I turned, Jim fell.
Lieutenant: He's the teller, Frank.
Drebin: Jim Fell's the teller?
Sally: No, Jim Johnson.
Drebin: Who's Jim Fell?
Lieutenant: He's the auditor, Frank.
Sally: He had the flu, so Jim filled in.
Drebin: Phil who?
Lieutenant: Phil Din...he's the night watchman.
Drebin: Alright, now let me get this straight. Twice came in and shot the teller, and Jim fell.
Sally: No, he only shot the teller Jim Johnson. Fell is ill.
Drebin: OK, then after he shot the teller you shot Twice.
Sally: No, I only shot once.
Lieutenant: Twice is the holdup man.
Sally: Then I guess I did shoot Twice.
Drebin: Oh so now you're changing your story?
Sally: I shot Twice after Jim fell.
Drebin: You shot Twice AND Jim Fell?
Sally: No, Jim fell first, and then I shot Twice once.
Drebin: Who fired twice?
Sally: Once!
Lieutenant: He's the owner of the tire company, Frank.
Drebin: OK...now, Once is the owner of the tire company and he fired Twice. Then Twice shot the teller once.
Sally: Twice.
Drebin: And Jim fell, and then you fired twice.
Sally: Once.
Drebin: OK... alright, that'll be all for now, Miss Decker.
Lieutenant: We'll need you to make a formal statement down at the station.
Sally: Oh, of course.
Drebin: You've been very helpful. We think we know how he did it.
Sally: Oh, Howie couldn't have done it, he hasn't been in for weeks!
Drebin: (pause) ...well.... Thank you again, Miss Decker.

Ilike the math here:

The police say Morales fired at least three times at the SWAT team, also known as the Emergency Response Team, thus attempting to kill five Hartford police officers.

They're claiming that it's possible for three shots to kill five people? Were they lined up back to back or something so they can claim that? Shooting at cops is one thing, but just making up magic legal theories is bad too.
