Just paraphrasing here, but Shep was ranting and waving his arms about the family claiming there was a sketch and the police saying they have no knowledge of a sketch......about the initial offers by Boylan being rejected by the family......just ranting about the "weirdness" of the contradictory info in the case. My interpretation was that he was primarily frustrated with the behavior of the Smart family. One thing I do remember Shep saying......Jeanne Boylan was supposed to have been appearing on FOX News at the time Shep was speaking, but he said that she hadn't showed up and they didn't know why.

BTW.....Shep is interviewing Marc Klass(sp?) right now......sounds like the Smart family is getting raked over the coals......

Marc Klaas....did the perp have a moustache....if not, they are holding the wrong man and a kidnapper is still out there...only MK knows!

do we know for a fact that she did interview MK?

Maybe the P.D. gagged her. Who knows. It sounded like she was not able to answer questions about some things she observed with MK...in the interview. In my mind (not fact), I took it to mean she had been working with the police...but I don't know that, just my thinking at the time I heard her say it.

I am going to go in now and try to get it on paper.

From what I gather on another board, Jeanne signed a confidentiality agreement with the Smarts. So this sketch session was more than likely suggested by the Smarts PR person, and not for police use. Evidently, the Smarts were looking bad on the sketch issue after the Samantha kidnapping and the quick results stemming from a 5 yo's description.

Boylan prob. had to cancel her appearance on Shep's show due to the agreement. No doubt she was reminded of the agreement by the Smarts' lawyers (who I'm sure don't exist--lawyers, what lawyers? Why would the Smarts need lawyers or PR people? That's only for parents who act suspiciously--right?)

Why would the GJ put a gag order on Boylan? All the other GJ witnesses--Angela R., Deana Newhouse, Thurber, Moul, etc.--have been flapping their lips all over to the media.

If there is anything exculpatory it's a problem for the police (i.e., no moustache)if they think they have 'their man.'

And we're supposed to believe that the family would give up the chance to get a sketch from one of the country's 'best' artists because of Klaas' association with Fox? What did that have to do with anything? Get the sketch out, find the perp and deal with Fox/Klaas later.

You answered your own question. The Smart family has relied totally on the SLCPD/FBI and if the police didn't want it published and feared Boylan/Klaas would leak it, not having Boylan do it was acceptable to the Smarts. For whatever reason, the police do not want a sketch published - that seems even more obvious now that Boylan has done a sketch and it hasn't been released - probably because they don't want it to be used later as a "get out of jail free" card.

Mary Katherine has been the most closely guarded asset in this whole investigation. Media has been allowed NO access to her, other than a single photograph of her and Elizabeth together. Reports are that police interviewers have only had access to her while in the presence of her mother. Now that Boylan has finally been allowed access, we find that the strict rules of secrecy continue. Whatever Mary Katherine brings to this investigation must be EXTREMELY SENSITIVE information......but sensitive for WHOM???

This thread has been pretty civil all day, but if you keep throwing out cheap shots at the Smart family, it probably won't stay that way. It is one thing to question their handling of the case, largely at the direction of the SLCPD/FBI. It is yet another to assume they are implicated and continually smear them.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that Ricci is involved in this up to his hairline and likely had one or more accomplices. The police apparently have known from the earliest days who the accomplice was and are trying to prove it. They probably view releasing a sketch of an accomplice as Elizabeth Smart's death warrant.

We've already established that a "loser" like Ricci would not be considered 'trusted' before, during or after his employment at the Smart home.

We have "established" no such thing. Ricci was in fact a trusted member of the community, working in the Smart's and neighbor homes unsupervised - UNTIL the theft. At which point he was no longer trusted.
