Bizarre study trick proves fatal
BANGKOK - A university student here has been found dead after a bizarre study method which involved looping a belt around his neck and fixing it to a door handle went tragically wrong.
Eak Chongsawatwattana's mother said the belt kept him awake while he was studying, a trick he had learnt from other university students.
If he nodded off, the jerk of the belt would wake him up.
'I warned him many times not to do this, but he just didn't listen. Now he's dead,' she said.
Eak, 21, was reportedly found sitting upright at his desk with the belt still around his neck.
His neck was bruised but there were no other signs of injury.
Forensics expert Dr Pornthip Rojanasunant said it was likely Eak had died from a lack of oxygen to his brain.
Mr Chavalit Muennuch, an executive at Assumption University where Eak was a student, said the administration was looking into his death.
'I've never heard anything like this throughout my 28 years of work in school administration. This student sounds like a masochist,' he said.
'He tortured himself to succeed. This is not the proper way to succeed.'--The Nation/Asia News Network, AFP

He was choking the chicken. A rock star from INXS did it to himself three years ago and it was ruled a suicide.

I would, if I was looking for information on Religion, Traffic Laws, Autoerotic aphyxiation, Asteroids etc...
To: Thebaddog
I thought the same thing.
"Junior, what are you doing in there?"
"Nothing, Mom. Just studying. This belt just helps me stay awake."
Well-known university practice. Uh-huh. (auto-erotic asphyxiation)

Michael Hutchinson from INXS died from this.
He was jerking something alright and it wasn't his belt.

" 'He tortured himself to succeed. This is not the proper way to succeed.'- " Well that's the understatement of the century!
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
It would have been funnier if they'd said "he abused himself in order to succeed..."
