You and I are in full agreement on this. The way I see it, is the ignorant politicians in the US, and Israel usually hires political appointees from among their supporters as bureaucrats. Typically these bureaucrats are hired for their connection rather than their knowledge. Then, we end up with the blind leading the blind. If we elect an ignorant leader because he is tall or got nice teeth, at least we should have people with real knowledge giving him/her advices.

Exactly. One of the unavoidable flaws in an open system. In Israel's case, there are a lot of favors their government can do for our politicians. I am not sure but I have read the reverse is not true. The Christian Coalition or any other American group would not be allowed to lobby the Knesset the way AIPAC and the ADL lobbies our congress on the behalf of Israel.
