O'Connor, perhaps?

There has been speculation about O'Connor before, hasn't there?

If it's true, hopefully JP Stevens.

But don't expect Bush to appoint a righty, or even a moderate. He wouldn't want to offend his pals on the Left.

Good. Time for Bush to spend a little "political capital".

Flashback to last summer. Drudge said definately, 1, possibly 2 Supreme Court Justices were retiring any day now.

That was his big scoop of the summer, and it fizzled out. Who knows, a clock is right 2 times a day though.

Maybe Stevens. I am sure he would be replaced with a Souter clone.

My money is on Stevens.

I sure hope Garza in the 5th Circuit is ready. He or Luttig would be good picks, IMHO.

I'd like to see Ginsberg retire. Her health is not the greatest with her having cancer a few years ago.

Oh dear. I pray that conservatives are really prepared for one of the bloodiest battles of all time - especially given the proximity of election day. It will take all the unity we've ever been able to muster.

As long as it's not Thomas (which it won't be) I'm fine with it.

It's either Renquist, Stevens, O'Connor or Ginsburg. Most likely Renquist.

I've heard from someone who spent time working at the SC that O'Conner has been eager to retire and move back to Arizona for years now. I think after deciding some of these big cases, she feels her work is done. I'm betting on O'Conner.
