Indeed, Jesse Helms did not cast a vote on this measure. We can assume it had to do with his recent surgery.

On seperation of Church and State

It is impossible to build sound Constitutional doctrine
on a mistaken understanding of Constitutional history...
The establishment clause had been expressely freighted with
Jeffersons misleading metaphor for nearly forty years...
There is simply no historical foundation for the proposition
that the framers intended to build a wall of seperation
[between church and state]...
The recent court decisions are in no way based on either
the language or the intent of the framers.

1985 Assoc. Justice U.S. Supreme Court

Dishonest socialist democrat party slimeballs. Most of them would gladly see God removed from every aspect of our society.

Oh my look at the rats scramble to distance themselves from the evil court that seems to have the very same political views they do!
See, they know the little people are mad as heck about this and so they denounce it in public, and probably applaud it behind closed doors.

This is a federal court that is based in California. Technically it is not a California court, it represents several western states including Washington, Oregon, Nevada, etc.

Bingo!

Secularism - the new state religion, in direct contradiction to the Constitutions ban on a state religion.

I am such, and I've no problem with it. Indeed, I heartily endorse that phrase in our Pledge.

Though I am intellectually certain there is no God as some more sentient being, I am patriotically and morally convinced that there is something known to my fellow citizens and neighbors as God who/what is at the root of being, life, our nation and our moral fibre. When referring, with humble respect, to that Root of All, I will usually and gladly use the word "God", for that is how such is spoken of in my language.

One of the great wonders of this nation is that it doesn't matter that my "God" wears a different colour robe than yours.

It does matter very much that we understand and teach our children that our Freedom and Dignity comes from God, not from Washington, D.C.

When Sean Hannity interviewed the athiest guy that brought this lawsuit today, the one question I wanted him to ask was "What if you're wrong and there is a God and he wants us to say the Pledge of Allegiance?"

We are now entering a time of incredible ironies. Let us cite but one of these ironies which is yet in its subtle stages: We will see a maximum, if indirect, effort made to establish irreligion as the state religion. It is actually a new form of paganism-which uses the carefully preserved and cultivated freedoms of western civilization to shrink freedom, even as it rejects the value essence of our rich Judeo-Christian heritage.

Force them to reveal their true colors. Call for a repeal of those responsible for this ruling.

Them mess up their clearly disingenuous tactic. Force them to vote on impeachment.

"We take the stars from Heaven, the red from out mother country, separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity representing liberty." -George Washington

(I guess that court will have to take the stars away from the flag, too.)

Thanks; I figured the reason was health (or lack thereof), not lack of patriotism.
