The only suggestion I would make regarding your "carpetbombing" would be to show a modicum of discretion regarding the thread and the fundraising post. A somber thread - a death in the family, a prayer request...doesn't need a silly bird, cheerleaders or the like. Something more along the lines of the ruler that DoughtyOne has been posting would be in better taste.

Well tell the whiners/bashers that if they all donated monthly, they could solve the problem themselves. I feel like I do with voting -- if you don't vote, then you have no right to complain. On here if you don't donate, then quit whining/complaining/bashing about fundrasiers.

If some of you are the ones bashing Pres Bush and his supporters on here like me, then either donate now or shut up and leave us alone! Everytime you bash me and our President, be prepared to be asked if you donated to Free Republic -- would be nice if you gave an honest answer too!

I just sent you the following e-mail in response to your e-mail acknowledging my donation. But I thought it might be appropriate to share it with the rest of Freeperdom. So here it is:

Thank you for acknowledging my donation. This is the first time I have ever received an acknowledgment, which is something I always thought FR should do. The fact that you are now acknowledging donations demonstrates the continuing sophistication and class of the FR website

If I may make a suggestion, I think it would be helpful to future fundraisers (or even this one, if there is time) if FR could publicly acknowledge those who donate. For example, maybe there could be a star on each donating member's profile, perhaps color coded to show what range of donation the member made. Possibly there could be a "Hall of Fame" page where you list the screen names of those who donate. Freeper peer pressure would go a long way towards encouraging those who never donate to do so.

Possibly there could even be additional levels of functionality made available to those who donate. (Not sure what that might be, or how one would implement it. Just trying to offer some food for thought.)

Anyway, keep up the great, important work. God bless you, Jim and John, FR and our great Republic!

I'm hoping that this message will inspire other Freepers to think about what additional steps FR might make to increase the number of donating Freepers.

Good but not quite. "Pacific Flyer", a general aviation regional weekly, with the wit and humor of FR used to show a sad sack lookin' hound with the line "Help save this dog! Subscribe". (no gun is my point)

I love dogs, horses are my passion. Cats are, well, OK. How about a huge democ-RAT, with the tag: Give! Or we let the RAT live!...

No there's not, but I did (modestly) anyway. The ability to be informed, comment about it, and blow off steam at the condition of this world is priceless.
