Somebody better call PETA and ELF to put an end to this. Hey, I know, Al Gore isn't doing much these days and his El Nino battles are behind him....

Cancelling planned visit to Yellowstone this summer.
It's 40,000 years overdue, for cripe's sake!

I caught a show on Discovery Channel this weekend dealing with this subject and I just had to go and find out more on it. Of course, they also had a show on megatsunamis ...

Great Article. As with an atomic bomb attack, if the results of an eruption are truly this bad, I want to be visting Yellowstone when it goes off...lol.

No tinfoil involved. This is real stuff, not whacked out conspiracy theories. Of course, an asbestos helmet might be appropriate ...

in parts of Yellowstone the ground has risen over seventy centimeters this century. It is all the people on both coasts. Their weight is causing the edges of America to droop and the center to rise.

Right after Mt. St. Helens exploded, two DJs on a Boston radio station pulled a prank. They started broadcasting "bulletins" that the local Blue Hills ski area was erupting. Blue Hills is a small hill of about 2,000 feet near Norwood-Boston. It has zero volcanic properties. Yet, hundreds of thousands of Boston's stupid-but-over-educated tree-huggers and ozone-hole watchers heard the joke, took it seriously, and freaked out. The roads were clogged with accidents by paniced drivers who had thrown their families and a few suitcases in their cars and were barreling down the highway to escape the "raining death" from the "volcano." It took days to get things back to normal. The DJs were fired. The radio station apologized.

As an acronym neophyte, I'll ask the dumb question. What does ITEOTWAWKI mean?

Don't cancel. I visited Yellowstone on my honeymoon and had an enjoyable stay at the Roosevelt Lodge. Saw Old Faithful too.

It's The End of the World as We Know It. (Sorta tongue-in-cheek).

Cool!
Anyone ever wonder if another Harry Truman (of Mt St Helens fame) were living in the area, would the feds lay siege to his home and arrest him if he refused to flee an impending disaster?

Well, it would sure solve the "global warming" problem for a few thousand years.

We have been to Yellowstone a number of times. When you're heading towards the North entrance there is an overlook on one of the mountains that shows the entire caldera, and there is a display there showing the size of the area. When you have driven through it you can truly appreciate the considerable dimensions of it.
It is facinating to fish the rivers and see the many vents that are literally everywhere. It boggles my mind to think how massive this eruption will be when it finally occurs.
I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it though.

. . . a cold wave lasting several years . . .Better kick in that global warming, and QUICK!
