Tancredo doubts he can block amnesty-extension bill
Denver Post ^ | March 8, 2002 | Bill McAllister

Friday, March 08, 2002 - WASHINGTON - Rep. Tom Tancredo takes credit for thwarting the Bush administration's last effort to offer partial amnesty to thousands of illegal residents, but Thursday the outspoken immigration foe said he may have been outmaneuvered by the White House.

President Bush has struck a deal with the House leadership to place legislation that offers an extension of amnesty on its consent calendar before Bush heads to Mexico for a state visit next week, the Colorado Republican said.

That action should ensure quick House passage of legislation that Bush has repeatedly sought from Congress. It would allow an undocumented person to receive legal standing, such as a valid green card, by filing a declaration with the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

It presumably also would require the person to have been in the United States by a certain date and have filed a declaration with the INS from an appropriate sponsor, such as a relative or employer, and pay a $1,000 penalty.

"The terms are still up in the air," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration, a group that has been allied with Tancredo. "We've heard to the effect that the president wants something to bring down to Mexico."

The initial Bush proposal, designed exclusively for Mexicans, once was high on the president's legislative wish list, but it was delayed after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. However, as the president noted Wednesday in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, he now is pushing for the extension of the amnesty program known by the section of immigration law that covers it, Section 245I.

The president hailed it as a way to reunite family, separated by the border. "If you believe in family values, if you understand the worth of family and the importance of family, let's get 245I out of the United States Congress and give me a chance to sign it," Bush told the chamber members.

Tancredo, the head of a congressional caucus on immigration issues and proponent of halting virtually all immigration, said he had blocked a previous attempt by Bush to push an extension of the amnesty program through the House. But this time, he said House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., had agreed to place the issue on the suspension, or consent, calendar, making it difficult to defeat the proposal.

The Senate might be more favorable to the bill than the House, expanding the numbers of individuals who can apply, Tancredo said.

Congress has blown the doors off, and now the whole Third World is trying to get in. And George Bush will let them come. The man is nuts. He will only lose his office over this. We will lose our country.

I couldn't agree more. Here is what Bush says of himself:

"In 1989 Bush told Roland Betts, his good friend and former Yale classmate: "You know I could run for governor but I'm basically a media creation. I've never done anything. I've worked for my dad. I worked in the oil business. But that's not the kind of profile you have to have to get elected to public office." Fortunate Son by Hatfield ( Page 95 ...ch 4 ...). Betts was also a partner in the Texas Rangers and in Spectrum 7, an energy company. (pg. 289)

I think the guy is absolutely clueless!!

Yep, they'll probably be here after they get done panting from their 'dose' on the 'Day in the Life' thread. After all, it is far more important to be concerned about Laura's dress and Jorge's tight jeans than to be concerned about the silent foreign invasion of illegals being perpetrated by their hero.

Hey,be a little more respectful when speaking of George "The Mexican" Bush,ok? After all,he is slated to be the first president of the US,Canada,AND Mexico. You should mention something about how "Jorge sure does look hot in his tight pants, flannel shirt, and sombrero!"

The 'cult of personality' is alive and well with the Bush-bots.

Ain't that the truth! Jesus doesn't have more dedicated followers.

Bush won't be happy until every last Mexican is living in the U.S.

This is because the Bush family NEEDS these Mexican voters in order for Bush's nephew,George "The Mexican" Bush to be elected president of the "North American Union".

To him, it matters nothing that the overwhelming majority of Americans want illegal immigration totally stopped and illegals deported,

Dat be becauz he be takin' care of de family bidnez, not the 'murikan bidnez. Besides providing a voting block for the nehpew, somebody in the Bush family is going to get a LOT of contracts to buy and ship Mexican oil out of this.

Congress has blown the doors off, and now the whole Third World is trying to get in. And George Bush will let them come. The man is nuts. He will only lose his office over this. We will lose our country.

But the Bush family will gain a international dynasty. I have no doubt at all that Prescott Bush and the Chinese are in the background on this, too. Uncle Prescott may even be the one who gets the Mexican oil contracts, but will sell them to China instead of the US.

"I bet there's a lot of good patriots on this thread."

There are indeed. One only has to look at those postings where reason and logic prevail over emotion and blind loyalty....and there are many here.

"My "representative" Jane Harman won't even respond to letters or calls on this subject, and she represents part of invaded Los Angeles. I continue to contact her, though. Numbers USA is the best way to contact everyone!"

Harman is another example of "liberated" women in politics who married very wealthy men(Feinstein and Boxer did the same)This allows all three plenty of time on their hands to run for public office, and TRASH everything we hold dear in America!!!!

Has anybody seen a good explanation of why George Walker Bush flaunts a seemingly faked-in Texas drawl, while his brother Jeb sounds more honestly like the Connecticut blue-blood family that the Bush's grew up in? It matters. Especially if we're getting a fake out...even in the details, like a "down-home" act.

Simple. Bubba-2 was tasked by his family to run for governor in a actual southern state, and Jeb in the southernmost Yankee state in the nation. A drawl is a asset in Texas, and a liability in Florida.

What I'm wondering about is how much George "The Mexican" Bush (the current George's nephew)will sound like Speedy Gonzales when HE runs for president of the North American Union.

Thanks for the ping. I received these alerts in my email this morning. I will probably link to this post from other threads.

I told everybody that Bush would do anything to shove this down our throats. It looks like he is trying again.

Roy, From what I've read, 245i is worded in such a convoluted fashion that it can be interpreted to apply to any of the 13 million illegal aliens that are believed to be in the United States.

What leads you to believe that it would only apply to 500,000?

They complained on the Fox morning show that they were being bombarded with 'spam' e-mail, but they wouldn't mention what it was about.

Thanks for the ping. It looks like the amnesty scam is starting all over again. Bush, Brownback, Hagel and co. aren't going to stop with this until the world resides in the US, all in the name of being "immigrant friendly".

Apparently what they don't understand is the difference between legal and illegal, if the law means nothing for illegal aliens why should it mean anything for anyone else? They are encouraging lawlessness and chaos at the border as more illegals try to sneak in and get rewarded, which makes their latest border security bill a joke.
