You nailed it! This war on terrorism will never end! Nor should it as terrorism feeds on itself and has a life of its own. As long as it exists it should be fought, hard. They will be reduced in numbers but not in dedication. I shouldn't think this is a novel conception.

I've been waiting for this kind of crappola. Any significant US military action, against anyone, after Labor day will be portrayed by the lib-demholes and media pukes as a wag-the-dog/October suprise type stunt for electoral advatage. The same lib-demholes and media pukes that ignored bubba's actual wag-the-dog stunts.

Comparing oranges and apples does not work. The Balkins and the Russians were Never a free democratic republic. By the time the Reds had taken over, Czarism and feudal, european and Isalamic government was simply replaced with a more repressive form of Communistic government. After the 13th century the Balkins were under Islamic domination. I see no comparables here.

Letters of marque and reprisal were issued for the usual reason -- privateers could capture ships for profit and save the Navy the effort of capturing them for merely military reasons. The very first case in the US Supreme Court concerned such a capture of a french vessel, The Schooner Peggy.

I have read the pair of "Treaties of Peace and Amnity" that ended the Barbary Priate War. One was in 1815, and the "amended" one in 1816. I count the latter one as the end of the war, making it a few months over 10 years.

I expect about the same duration of the War on Terrorism.

As for how long afterwards US troops remained overseas, it could have been decades, as it has been after World War II and after the Korean War. That is not, however, an extention of the war itself.

Does that answer all your questions?
