Exactly. Nothing on the ground is more than 8 minutes from space once it’s on a booster. And it has the advantage of being able to be put where you want it.
A nuke in space is slightly useful for a ground attack by reducing available response time but you can accomplish the same thing with a submarine.
I’m concerned about the nukes on the Russian subs loitering a couple hundred miles off our coasts.

By ‘the whole topic being absurd’, I presume you mean it being brought up as a concern by the congressional committee. I tend to agree if its just somebody overheard that some russian leadership was discussing it. Until actions are taking place to make it happen, its just a watch item.
With all of our enemies lined up against us in Washington DC and many state capitols I lose exactly zero sleep worrying about what the Russians are doing.
