If a company is not paying its employees enough to survive without welfare, they should be taxed to recoup that loss. I really don’t see how this is controversial. The tax code should be used to modify behavior over increasing a minimum wage.

That’s the point. If you raise minimum wage, the small businesses will die off. The corporations though, tax the hell out of them if they aren’t paying their employees enough.

No, if you tax the big corps so much that they then pay their employees more to avoid the taxes, it will have the same effect. The small firms still won’t be able to pay people more.
