Last year this time, I was in the hospital with my 100 yo dad, reading him the Christmas story out of the Bible. He passed away Jan. 9.
Tonight, I went to a Christmas Eve service and cried all the way through the first hymn, thinking about last year this time with dad. Mom & I attended the service at a small country church ... they have a box of tissues in both ends of every pew ... mom was making use of one box & I was using the other. Dad was a man of strong faith and while I miss him so much, I wouldn’t wish him back in this world because he’s safe in his Shepherd’s arms, in the presence of God’s love this Christmas & forever.

My being a manic depressive made life a living hell for her.
I'll never understand why God would let me be hit with something that made our vows be broken. I loved her, with all my heart, second only to God.
She remarried, had some kids I heard. The kind of family I always wanted to have. But was denied by my own mind turned against itself.
Things have gotten better in that regard. Until the economy took a huge turn downward I was helping others with severe mental illness, so that they might have a better time dealing with their diagnoses than I did. I spent three and a half years as a mental health professional, and would still be doing that if Trump was still president.
I'm a very broken man, looking for one woman who would not only love God more than me, but could abide my quirks and weaknesses.
And that seems downright impossible to find.
My husband and I worked a holiday weekend for the double pay and were rewarded by our taxes going up for the year. Learned the hard way about taxes but we were very young and it clued us in to the IRS and to looked into consequences for the gift horse thing.
Same here DouglasKC. I love God’s Holy Days. This year there have been many changes in our lives (my family and I) so I’m welcoming the opportunity to show my love for my family on a day they deem special. I cooked some of their favorite treats and the preparations for a nice dinner tomorrow. I made some italian sausage using beef and ground turkey for my saucè for lasagna. First time making sausage, and it came out good!!

There is hope...did you see...after 52 years a mate was found. It can happen.
My folks are gone now
Over a decade for one and nearly two on the other
I miss them every single day of the week
I spent over 2 hours (4:45pm - 7:10pm MT), chatting with my son tonight in person. Did not get to see my grands or D-I-L but that’s the plan tomorrow.
My mother died in 2011. Because of my status as a single person with a grown on his own child and everyone else having other family events to go to I became mom’s Christmas Eve date from about 2005 until the year she died. We would hang out at her apt watching the Christmas shows and having snacks and chatting. About 10 I would give her a kiss and hug and a “Merry Christmas mom” and head home. She was about ready for bed.
I’m not some great hero, I was just doing what a son should. A few members of the family didn’t seem to mind her being all alone on Christmas Eve. Not on my watch.
