I think any validity of that threat is predicated on proof that the hostages are still alive and well.

Criminals such as Hamas should expect the authorities to demand “proof of life” for hostages as in cases of child molesters holding an abducted victim, or cases of office building or bank takeovers with hostages or home invaders taking a hostage away.

You would like to think so, but I doubt it. Their supporters would either refuse to believe their own lying eyes or say that because of the Israeli apartheid fascist colonialist regime, Hamas had no choice. The hostages’ deaths would be blamed on Israel.
Note, the leftists marching in the streets calling for a ceasefire, never call for Hamas to lay down its arms and surrender.
It is not unlike western Communists reaction to the first years of World War II. They were 100% against the war. But in June, 1941 they were quite capable of turning on a dime demanding war against Germany.

Yes, I am fairly sure they offer some kind of proof the hostages are alive. We would know if they killed them. Too difficult to keep that quiet.
