I just got to tell this story and hope I’m not butting in too much.
It’s about the mouse that roared.
No, I didn’t write the book but I could not make up this story.
First, my house is in Delaware and like most homes in Delaware it has ...not a cellar or basement...but what we call a crawl space.
Which is exactly what it is, a small brick-lined are under all the rooms. Throughout the crawl space water pipes and heater/air conditioner vents also running throughout.
Vents at the side of the house allow air flow during moldy weather and one large entry allows crawling within. Those vents at the side somehow, and I’m not sure how, mice access to those vents.
So the Mouse That Roared got in the house via heater vent.
We have a cat and a dog and two humans living in this house.
First, Mighty Mouse gets into my daughter’s medical marijuana. He chews it all to hell...allmost $300 worth. Then in early October it trav els the house via the now heater vents as AC is turned off. The lousy cat mouse hunter has been trying to catch this mouse for almost a month. AND CAUGHT IT TWICE!!! ‘
Even the dog is trying to catch this mouse.
Earlier today I go in the kitchen, this after almost a week of no mouse sightings. Out from behind my stove pops..guess who? THE MOUSE THAT ROARED!!
Daughter went in and tried to catch it in a jar and almost did.
This, while the cat slept.
There’s more but I’ll stop now. But this mouse had babies and it seems my cat DID catch a baby.
But I’m tired.
The mouse still lives, managed to chew a hole in the wall because once the heat comes on it can’t run through the vents.
I’m done.
Get an assistant cat. I have never seen a cat that wasn’t a “mouser”.
Whatever you do, don’t buy that poison where the mouse just goes off and dies.
We did that and it took care of the mouse problem okay. But a few weeks later, our house stunk like a rotten mouse. The little rascal chose to die behind the drywall, between the studs.
Trying to figure out where the corpse lay was difficult, as was tearing down the wall.
Henceforth, we only used spring-loaded traps. Waiting for the SNAP in the middle of the night is a bit unnerving though.

I had a friend who worked part time for me for years. He was from R.I. I got a real earful of what goes on up there. Little was good.
My mouse cooked on the heater vent! My girls were trying to kilt but they were 85 pound Larador retrievers . The Smell was horrific!! forever!!
