Apparently, from what I have read in other places, pet dogs are now a somewhat common thing for the younger Chinese tech workers. The are disgusted their parents eat them. So it’s a generational thing apparently. However, China is disgusting dirty and the people disgusting in how the behave and operate in public. Let’s just say they act more like our ghetto than Japan in lots of ways.
Final thought. No tech company should hire Chinese workers. They steal any and all tech, IP, financial or even contact data and ship it home. Never hire anyone from or have mainland family. The government will force if they are not already willing to help the giant ghetto cesspool of a country. Thank goodness they refused to breed so half will be gone in 40 years.

While I'm not a fan of H-1B visa workers displacing Americans, especially older workers, I have to admire the irony of Biden kicking out our skilled foreign workforce from Asia while opening the southern border to the uneducated, unskilled, and unwanted criminals from Central and South America.

Most likely the work will be done abroad. Much cheaper than paying citizens 5-6 times more than workers abroad. Internet makes this possible. Even x-rays are now read by doctors abroad using internet.
My wife just got laid off but the h1-bs got to stay. Now they are trying to get her to help them train her replacements. Proud that she isn’t playing along.
We had inf0$y$ for our IT support. They provided fast n accurate responses. One issue was when a lower caste employee managed an upper caste employee. The lower caste had to subtlety drop pearls of wisdom on the upper caste until the lightbulb turned ON.
Friends in other companies had the prob of an Indian company doing onsite support n they were just oversight management. Here the Indian ‘mgr’ got graft from those they hired, they worked the good knowledgeable workers into the ground, the substandard ones paid higher graft. The whole dynamic $ucked, n these are just 2 of prob 10-15 other dynamics in play. But as an client overseer there was nothing that you could do.
The unskilled people coming illegally do not threaten jobs if IT workers posting on FR. Therefore you will not see many posts about illegals who depend on taxpayer funded welfare.
Ask her if she wants a hot dog and see the look of disappointment on her that it really isn’t made from a dog.... : )

I'm so glad that I retired from IT before COVID-19 and no longer have to worry, even though I've been through a dozen layoffs at my company and survived them all.
But I am still empathetic to the cause.
