True, Trump had the authority to declassify documents while he was president. He would, however, still have to document that he declassified them with at least 1 other person to verify that. So all he has to do is point to the records of the declassification and he's in the clear. Of course if there are no such records, if he just grabbed the papers and declared them declassified while he was alone, then Trump might have some explaining to do.

The Fed gubmint spits out billions of pieces of paperwork a year. A President can unilaterally declassify every single one of them. Trump allegedly had “dozens” of this paper spittle, much of which, considering there were loads of unpacked boxes everywhere, he was probably not even aware was in the boxes. He did not pack the boxes. Took 30 FBI agents 9 hours to roust the place and look into unpacked boxes to come up with “dozens”. These folks need to get a life
