" How the heck do people not ask these questions before buying a vehicle?! "

As with buying a inkjet printer. Best to prayerfully find the largest cap. cart, and check out the reman prices, and find the printer was belongs to it. Like the 950XL, 951XL four pack for $11.00 with the massive black cart which fits discontinued HP 950XL 951XL OfficeJet Pro 8100 8600 8610 8620 8630 models. If you can find one cheap that works.

"Easy solution: go to AUTOZONE, since they have the common parts for all models of cars."

No, that would not have been a solution for them. May 24, 2022—Advance Auto Parts has announced the introduction of DieHard EV with xEV by Clarios, making them the first auto parts retailer to sell 12-volt batteries specifically made for EVs and hybrids

There are so many flaws in what you wrote that I won’t bother responding to them. For instance “a half million pounds of earth”, which sounds like a lot. That’s a truckload. Similar to getting iron ore and creating steel. All the components of modern cars are similarly creating by refining many tons of earth, or barrels of oil.

I agree with you on one thing. We cannot go all-EV, as we do not have the electrical-generating capacity. State legislators are fools when they mandate moving to all EV’s by fixed dates in the near future (2030,2035, etc.). I estimate only less than 25 percent of vehicles by 2035 will be EV. And the electric grid will suffer much strain.

One other thing: those in power want to remove private ownership of all vehicles, not just ICE vehicles. The push towards EV’s is one step towards their goal of pushing us all into public transit and ride-sharing. If they can’t do that solely by economic means, they’ll legislate it with punitive fines and laws.

By the year 2035, in 2022 dollars, an EV will cost $75,000. A typical used ICE vehicle with 100,000 miles will cost $30,000. Auto manufacturers have stopped making new ICE vehicles because all the blue states have banned the dealerships from selling the new ICE vehicles. Gas will cost $6.00.

If gas is 6 bucks a gallon then, it would make sense to stockpile some gas powered beaters for future use. When used car prices cool down in a year or so.

I disagree. By 2035, the average EV will cost $25,000 in 2022 dollars. The downward trend in EV production cost will continue downward, coupled with near-100% recycling of materials (closed-loop system similar to what happens with lead-acid battery recycling). ICE vehicles will continue to be manufactured and probably will average $35,000 in 2022 dollars. EV's will become cheaper to buy than ICE cars; but ICE cars will continue to be popular for those with the ability to pay for them (and restrictions will be curtailed or dropped). And gasoline will most likely be $10 or more (largely due to politics as usual).

First, yes, I’ve worked hard for many decades and can afford what I have.

Second, research the “Ford Option”. I have a LOWER payment than a lease for 3 years (there’s a 4 year option that makes less sense) and then I can pay a balloon payment, finance the amount owed, sell the car and pay off the loan or just hand them the keys and walk away. It eliminates the battery life risk.

Someone living paycheck to paycheck shouldn’t buy ANY new car. I didn’t for years and still rarely do.

You won’t respond because YOU CAN’T argue with the TRUTH!!

Responding to truth would be one thing. Responding to idiocy is another; I don't waste my time on those who fabricate lies. For instance "wildly-toxic chemicals used to extract the ores". Do you even understand how most modern materials are refined from ores? What is your definition of wildly-toxic? Do you understand that mercury, acids and other toxic chemicals are used to create aluminum and other common-place metals from ores? It isn't just the truth you don't understand, you lack the knowledge to bolster your claims.

Where am I wrong? You dramatize an amount in pounds versus tons. Convert that to tons. The amount will fill a truckload.

You're just as bad as Biden. Why not criticize GM and Ford for their crappy EV's? Tesla is the leading producer of quality EV's. Meanwhile, GM and Ford are recalling theirs because of faulty construction. If any car is a POS, it is the EV offerings from GM. And putting all caps on words thinking it makes is true, is a childish thing. Grow up.

Yes you are a LIAR!!!! How many times do I have to PROVE it to the LIAR??????

“A single electric-car battery weighs about 1,000 pounds. Fabricating one requires digging up, moving and processing more than 500,000 pounds of raw materials somewhere on the planet. The alternative? Use gasoline and extract one-tenth as much total tonnage to deliver the same number of vehicle-miles over the battery’s seven-year life.”

If you want ‘renewable energy,’ get ready to dig

You are an idiot. You misconstrue information as fact, when it is not so. For instance, primary component of EV batteries is Lithium. It is refined from salt ponds and as a by-product of oil wells. It is not obtained by mining 500,000 pounds of ore. Ore can be utilized to produce nickel, steel, magnesium, rare-earth minerals and other ordinary materials used in a wide range of products. If you're going to complain about the digging of ores, then stop using your Samsung phones, big-screen TVs, gasoline cars, and many other household products because they cause far more use of metals and therefore much more mining of earth than the few tons dug for EVs.

Using all caps in your retorts is childish; your rage is misplaced.

You know I have been posting link after link to the LIAR and you have not posted one link. Probably because you are LYING Liberal and you will quote some STUPID LYING Liberal site. But yet again........I PROVE YOU A LIAR!!!

“to manufacture each EV auto battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium, 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, and 25,000 pounds of ore for copper. All told, you dig up 500,000 pounds of the earth’s crust for just one battery.”

Is it ethical to purchase a lithium battery powered EV?

https://www.cfact.org/2022/06/07/is-it-ethical-to-purchase-a-lithium-battery-powered-ev/

The hidden costs of “going green”

“A typical EV battery weighs one thousand pounds, about the size of a travel trunk. It contains twenty-five pounds of lithium, sixty pounds of nickel, 44 pounds of manganese, 30 pounds cobalt, 200 pounds of copper, and 400 pounds of aluminum, steel, and plastic. Inside are over 6,000 individual lithium-ion cells.

It should concern you that all those toxic components come from mining. For instance, to manufacture each EV auto battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium, 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, and 25,000 pounds of ore for copper. All told, you dig up 500,000 pounds of the earth’s crust for just - one - battery.”

Sixty-eight percent of the world’s cobalt, a significant part of a battery, comes from the Congo. Their mines have no pollution controls and they employ children who die from handling this toxic material. Should we factor in these diseased kids as part of the cost of driving an electric car?”

Keep up your idiocy, it’s amusing. Lithium is primarily retrieved from evaporation salt ponds, sea water, oil wells, etc. That is a primary component of most EV batteries. The other metals are produced from ores and are mined for many other products, of which EV batteries are few. So if you have concerns, then stop using smart phones, battery-powered items such as flashlights, watches, remote controls, etc. Look around at all the gadgets and homes that use products made from mining ore - give them up before howling in protest about mining.

Ahhh yes, I smell a LYING Liberal...Typical of all LYING Liberals when hit with the FACTS. Liberals NOTHING BUT LIARS!!!

“a single electric car battery weighing 1,000 pounds requires extracting and processing some 500,000 pounds of materials. Averaged over a battery’s life, each mile of driving an electric car “consumes” five pounds of earth. Using an internal combustion engine consumes about 0.2 pounds of liquids per mile.

Oil, natural gas, and coal are needed to produce the concrete, steel, plastics, and purified minerals used to build green machines. The energy equivalent of 100 barrels of oil is used in the processes to fabricate a single battery that can store the equivalent of one barrel of oil.”
