I still have antennas for most of my televisions. I still use it for College Football in the Fall. The rest of it is unwatchable. No more “Old People” pill, and Medicare commercials for me. You can keep Joe Namath, and Jimmy J.J. “Dynamite” Walker.😉

There were some really good and enduring movies made this year, so I don’t think the problem is with filmmakers themselves.

I think Dune was the standout from a story and creativity standpoint, but others were also outstanding.

Coda - A very positive and engaging story about living as a deaf family in America.
Belfast - An intimate recounting of a family’s survival during the Belfast N. Ireland uprising in 1969.
King Richard - A satisfying look at the rags to riches story behind the Williams tennis dynasty.
Being the Ricardos - An inside look at the history and personal struggles of the people who made “I Love Lucy” an icon. Not a nominee but should have been.
Nightmare Alley - Actually an adaptation of the 1947 version with Tyrone Power. Still a very interesting and nightmarish descent into the dark world of carnies and con men.

That said I didn’t get why “Drive My Car”, “Licorice Pizza”, “Don’t Look Up”, “The Tragedy of MacBeth”, or “Power of the Dog” were nominated. Not in the same league as the rest. “West Side Story” was well crafted and executed but the choice of male leads missed the energy and intensity of the original film cast. Mostly a vanity project for Spielberg.

I saw "The Big Sleep" about a week ago featuring Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart.

Definitely Oscar material in that particular show.

Why sit through a two- or three-hour movie when you can watch a 15-second dance move on Tik-Tok?

Technology has made it possible for just about anybody inclined to make a good movie. This industry is rapidly moving outside Hollywood.

I think you are correct. Back before my time movies were an event that one sort of watched in awe on the big screen. Now people binge watch... whatever. Movies have simply become just another perfunctory form of entertainment.

Morever, it has become painfully clear that movies are now nothing more than devices used to propagate the woke agenda. Find me modern movie, just one, that doesn’t push the homosexual agenda or have a homosexual character. Doesn’t really have anything to do with a story, just always there all the time in their ongoing effort to normalize this behavior. And don’t get me started on glamorous 5ft something women who go around and demolish bikers and other bad dudes. Pfffft....

Good movies start with good stories and good stories revolve around culture heroes. Then you throw in good acting, cinematometry, special effects and stunts, costuming, and all the other movie making trades. We don’t have good stories anymore because we don’t have culture heroes or a unifying culture. We don’t like ourselves much these days or even agree on who we are or who we ought to be or even who we used to be. Can’t write stories in that environment, at least not big stories. Shakespeare today would be writing graphic novels about queer superheroes from a land run by tough women in pants.

Every movie that I would like to see is poisoned by wokeness and political correctness.

Every racial demographic has to be included.

Women can outfight men.

White men are overwhelmingly portrayed as idiots or villains.

Traditional values are ridiculed while alternative lifestyles are applauded.

A lot of the actors are repugnant leftists who hate America.

Can’t offend the Chinese government in any way because that’s who owns the left and the left are the ones that makes the movies.

Don’t even get me started on the theaters.

The song they whistle is “Colonel Bogey’s March”. There were rather rude lyrics that made the rounds during WWII (about the , ahem, anatomy of some notable Nazis). It only makes their whistling of it even better.

btw - Colonel Bogey was the “ghost” golfer one was always playing against. Golfers later got so good they had to change the goal to “par” (one less than the proverbial bogey).

“Today's movie makers were raised on comic books”.

Ain't that the truth.

Everything today is ‘woke’ millennial garbage: The reluctant hero, the inner monologue through the movie, the pessimist, the poseur badass, the female flying through the air like in childish fantasies. The cast is easy to spot: The black homosexual male, an Asian smart female, a feisty redhead, a sniveling little white guy nerd, spouting more tripe and platitudes than any 80’s blood and guts movie.

I looked at the winners for the last 20 years, and honestly, the vast majority I have never seen, nor have any desire to see, and most of the ones I have seen were not very good.

BIRDMAN? are you kidding me?? (2 hours of my life I want back).

Argo okay movie, but hardly “Best Picture” in my book.

Kings Speech - Good Movie

Lord of the Rings - Good movie for what it was, but “picture of the year”? Not sure about that.

Every Industry has awards, and I have no issue if the folks who make films want to get together and circle jerk on each other once a year to celebrate their industry, any more than any other industry. However, why the hell should I care? I don’t care who is crowned Plumber of the year... or what designer his wife war that night to the ballroom of some Hyatt Hotel for the dinner and awards that night, why do they think I give a care about this?? Why should I?

If you make good films, great, I may watch them, or not, I may like them or not, but I really don’t give two wits about your party and self agrandizing over it every year... let alone sit through the pompous know nothings that think the fact they got a trophy means they get to lecture the rest of us about whatever it is they think is oh so important this year...

I’ll be honest, its been a LONG, LONG time since I’ve watched a newer film, of any genre on any platform that I thought was REALLY GOOD.... I have found myself Best Picture films from before I was born that I have found amazing (not all.. naturally, but as an art form, and as a story telling device, they are far superior to the bulk of things being made today).

2020 - “Parasite
2019 - “Green Book”
2018 - “The Shape of Water”
2017 - “Moonlight”
2016 - “Spotlight”
2015 - “Birdman”
2014 - “12 Years a Slave”
2013 - “Argo”
2012 - “The Artist”
2011 - “The King’s Speech”
2010 - “The Hurt Locker”
2009 - “Slumdog Millionaire”
2008 - “No Country for Old Men”
2007 - “The Departed”
2006 - “Crash”
2005 - “Million Dollar Baby”
2004 - “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”
2003 - “Chicago”
2002 - “A Beautiful Mind”
2001 - “Gladiator”

> The business model is broken.
Scripts and acting are driven by ideology.

Bingo !
The West has gone full on Nazi style fascist, and it's ESG financial system has forced Hollywood into following Joseph Goebbels blueprints for using popular entertainment as a vehicle for State propaganda.

New Netflix movie, BLONDE, about Marilyn Monroe coming out. Based on the book by Joyce Carol Oates. I’m reading the book now, very interesting, highly nuanced—and the author starts by saying, “This is a work of fiction.”

Monroe was far more than a T&A beauty.
