Most of the good movies don’t come from Hollywood anymore. Hollywood hasn’t had an original idea in years.

I’d watch the Oscars if they’d brought in Ricky Gervais to host. Otherwise, I’ll pass.

Also the decline of the “movie star.” People now pay to see Spider-man no matter who is playing him.

The end of movies? We should be so lucky.

Doris Day was a fine human being who turned down the starring role in The Graduate because the movie, she said, was trash.

Then comes whores like Jane Fonda who spearheaded the movement to turn America's ladies into street sluts, and she succeeded.

Our cultural revolution of the 60s was largely the fault of whores, pimps and fags that ruled the entertainment industry.

I even thought Seth McFarlane did a good job.

“I will not be watching tonight. Wanda Sykes?! Amy Schumer?!”

Not the slightest trace of humor in either one of those slugs. Add Trevor Noah for the hat trick.

If you can deal with commercials GET TV iz a good choice for movies and if you have a good HD antenna you can get it over the air.

“Bridge On The River Kwai’’

Great movie, Alex Guinness, what and actor and Sessue Hayakawa probably two of the best actors in movie history.
Best scene, in my opinion is when “Colonel Saito''(Hayakawa) slaps the little Geneva Convention rule book from "Colonel Nicholson''(Guinness) and says "Do not speak to me of rules, Colonel Nicholson. War is not a game of Cricket!''.

“ Graduate because the movie, she said, was trash.”

The graduate is trash. Yes it is.

Rather than watch the soles tonight I will watch the est movie of 2 years ago, the South Korea woke. And the woods want to know why we don't care about them and their industry.

“Don’t look up is a piece of cellulite trash”

My son and I started watching it because the premise had promise as a sci-fi thriller. Shortly after it began we realized what it was and kept watching just to see how bad it could get. It exceeded our wildest expectations.

To: Rummyfan; Borges

Drive My Car is excellent. So is CODA. Those would be my top two picks for Best Picture. Borges will probably be along sooner or later to plug WSS. These are all worthy films. The woke sensibility films that will p*** off freepers are The Power of the Dog and Don’t Look Up. The other nominees are ... well, take your pick, but I wouldn’t nuke them on political grounds. If the woke mafia block votes for an agenda film while the sane people split their votes among the others, Dog will win. That’s how highly motivated factions win outsized influence. If CODA wins, I will regard it as a good night. Drive My Car is considered the favorite for Best International Film.

The Russ Douthat article is behind a paywall but from the lead, it sounds on target. The streamers are swallowing the film industry. They will slowly turn everything into tv, which is a different animal. We are at risk of losing an art form which, when done well (which is difficult and rare), can have extraordinary power. We will miss real movies when they are gone. TV movies and series aren’t the same.

As a political matter, the triumph of the streamers will mean that a handful of the wokest companies will be the gatekeepers on distribution. Over time they will push their politics into content creation at the earliest stages. Have an idea? Talk to the DEI committee and political commissars before even sketching an outline. The current film industry, bad as it is, still has room for independent voices. I’m not sure that will still be the case in the future.

The business model is broken.

Scripts and acting are driven by ideology. The cinematography is largly computer based and is more about technology than art.

This all fits with the mode of presentation being now one’s TV ala-video game, rather than a sit-down theatre where a movie was once an event.

Yep.
That was my point. Haven’t sat through a commercial in years with streaming service. Wouldn’t even know what is in the theaters anymore.

If I watch a movie (never at a theater!) it’s likely foreign.
Hollywood has made a movie that can hold my interest for more than five minutes for years.

As Siskel and Ebert noticed years ago..

“The first movie makers were raised on great literature and made movies of the same.
Today’s movie makers were raised on comic books.”

Don’t look up is a piece of cellulite trash

Does that film showcase a lot of flabby thighs and orange peel skin? Or did you perhaps intend to write "celluloid trash?"

Regards,
