Carl Bernstein urges Republicans to make Nixon-era move: 'Damn past time' to rise up against Trump

Veteran investigative journalist Carl Bernstein urged Republican leaders in Congress to abandon President Trump and force him to abdicate his powers as president three months out from Election Day.

During an appearance Friday on CNN, Bernstein hearkened back to the Watergate scandal, describing how a trio of influential Republicans — 1964 presidential nominee Sen. Barry Goldwater, Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott, and House Minority Leader John Rhodes — went to the White House in 1974 to tell President Richard Nixon he did not have the support in Congress to survive impeachment, after which he resigned.

"Something similar is needed now. If only the Republican leadership and other Republicans would go publicly and say to this president, 'All right, you want to stay for the rest of your term, but we are going to be a caretaker until this election, and you must begin to act in the national interests and in fact we would like to find another alternative to run as the Republican nominee for president of the United States,'" Bernstein said.

Bernstein, along with Bob Woodward, helped bring down Nixon with Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the Watergate scandal in the Washington Post. Bernstein said Trump "absolutely" has acted more recklessly than Nixon.

If Carl Bernstein were an honorable man, he would call for the removal of the Stalinist Jerry Nadler from Congress.

When Trump has something like 96% approval amongst Republican voters?

Sure, go for it, guys.

"Veteran investigative journalist Carl Bernstein urged Republican leaders in Congress to abandon President Trump and force him to abdicate his powers as president three months out from Election Day."

This guy has been dining large on his role in Watergate. Of the Woodward/Bernstein duo, Bernstein is the Kardashian of the two, imho.

How totally out of touch Bernstein has become, as if his head has been buried in the sand (or somewhere else) ever since BEFORE the Russian hoax was destroyed.

You want “worse than Nixon”?

Try the sitting Administration which used the fell powers of the Federal government to perpetrate a fraudulent attack on the opposing party’s candidate, An attack which continued after that candidate was elected and sworn in.

Oh, and that’s the same administration which used spurious IRS actions to close down the opposing party’s PACs in the preceding election.

Who might these criminals have been you ight ask? Well one of them is the current Democrat Party candidate for Presdient,

i hold in contempt those who let Bill Clinton break the law and laugh it off as boys being boys... Obama funneling guns across the border, spying on Americans illegally and silence from likes of bernstein...

Trump has broken no laws, or i would not support him... i am surprised as to the delusion of such supposed smart people.

I wonder if he sympathized with his friend Bob Woodward when Bob had his own troubles with Obama and his people?

How did that work out for the Republicans?
Dems won a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, a veto-proof majority in the House, virtually every gubernatorial election, impeached the Vice President, and went on to elect Jimmy Carter.
