Former President Barack Obama used his eulogy at the funeral of Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) to call for an end to the Senate filibuster to pass Democrats’ new legislation on voting reform.
Obama said that Republicans had imitated Jim Crow-era restrictions on voting rights, which Lewis marched against, by passing state voter ID laws and other measures that conservatives argue prevent voter fraud.
“And if all this takes is ending the filibuster, another Jim Crow relic, in order to secure the God-given rights of every American, then that’s what we should do.”
Without mentioning Donald Trump by name, Obama likened the president to segregationist Democrat Gov. George Wallace of Alabama, and compared federal law enforcement officers to the police who beat civil rights marchers across the South.
He accused the government of “sending agents to use tear gas and batons against peaceful demonstrators.”

Well, having a reading test did hurt those who couldn’t read, but at the same time, I would say give those who can’t read some schooling and maybe an accommodation if dyslexic.
FWIW, I saw my dad take and pass a literacy test in Arizona back in the 60s. He was asked to spell his name—not unusual at all, but then he was asked to spell ‘Phoenix’ and Arizona. I thought it odd that the guy registering him couldn’t spell Arizona and my dad said that was just the literacy test.
How is it that everyday families cannot go see their loved ones in the hospital or have a decent funeral, but this Rep has a BIG SHOW of a funeral and laying in state at the capital building and NO ONE says a word about COVID or distancing or containing a room to 50%...How about those churches in Nevada that the Supreme Couurt said could not have more than 50% or a certain # worshipping God!
