Anthony Fauci responded to President Trump’s characterization of him as “a little bit of an alarmist” on the coronavirus pandemic, with the nation's top infectious diseases expert saying Monday that he prefers to think of himself as “a realist.”
“I consider myself a realist, as opposed to an alarmist,” Fauci told Maria Shriver in an Instagram Live interview Monday evening.
When asked if he would characterize his position as “dealing with reality,” Fauci responded, “I believe so, but then again, others have different opinions.”
Fauci also told Shriver that when it comes to the odds of preventing another wave in the fall and winter, the U.S. differed from Europe in that its plateaus were above the “real baseline.”
“That is really the challenge we’re facing today, in July,” Fauci said. “If we want to go into the fall and winter in good shape, we have got to get that down to a real baseline. And a real baseline means tens and hundreds, not tens of thousands.”

Since Fauci has this reputation as one of the world’s leading experts on infectious disease, it would create a political firestorm if Trump fired him.
The liberal outrage would be, how can Trump dismiss the world’s leading expert on infectious disease while we have this pandemic going on? The script is already written in the media if Trump were to dismiss Fauci.

Basically a government agency that decides what care people get, in a “free and private” health care system but where every insurance follows their guidance and every doctor is afraid to deviate from the “standard of care.”
Why keep this charade where you have a private store front but in reality the patient/consumer/payee simply gets what they are told they will get, no differently than in any other social health care system?
The health care system in this country is BROKE. It’s literally the worst of both worlds: corporate greed (big pharma, hospitals, insurance) and government red tape (NIH, CDC, FDA, DEA, state rules...) and bureaucracy. I and my doctor don’t decide anything, I just pay taxes, exorbitant rates for insurance, co-pays, deductibles, and other fees BUT let someone else decide what I get (my values, my money, my body, my risk - doesn’t apply to anything except a sex change or abortion in America).

There are plenty of very prestigious doctors with much better resumes than Fauci’s who do not subscribe to his alarmist views.
I’ve been saying all along Trump needs to add several of them to his task force. They will start challenging Fauci, both in closed-door meetings and perhaps in public statements. Based on my reading of his ego he likely would not be able to handle that for very long and most likely he’d quit.
