“Salmon P. Chase refused to give him one as he feared Davis might prove that secession was legal and the Union the aggressor.”

Chase may have had ulterior motives in not wanting a trial.
He would have been the presiding judge. He was also running for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Had he presided over a trial that convicted Davis of treason, how much support from Democrats’ would he have gotten for his run for the nomination.

A few years later, Chase would find that the secession of Texas was Unconsitiutional, in the case White v. Texas.

Isn´t the general committing treason? Court martial would be good.

How so?

Had this little piss ant been under General Eisenhower's command - at any level, enlisted or officer - during WWII I'm am certain he would have been shipped home and separated from the service. General Eisenhower would have thought his comments a danger to the men and mission.

How so?

Treason? Treason is where YOU are in bed with US Defense Contractors and sell weapons to our Islamic enemies.

These generals and admirals of today don’t work for the military, they work for defense corporations and they are promoted according to the amount of money (billions and trillions) these corporations rake in. They get their promotions by their house and senate armed service committee buddies.

They sell to our enemies like the Saudi’s and Kuwaitis.

They ignore violent religious doctrine, treasonously turning a blind eye.

So who is the traitor general?

That West Virginia was allowed to become a state of it's own is PROOF that the state of Virginia was seen as belonging to the Confederacy at that time.

LOL! That is absolutely ridiculous and completely wrong.

When Virginia entered into the rebellion a section of the state legislature remained loyal to the Union and was recognized by Congress as the legitimate Virginia legislature. Coincidentally they represented the western part of the state and they later voted to partition Virginia into two states. Congress voted to allow it and West Virginia was born. That's an abridged version but the details are easily available on line: Link.

*** Wasn’t there a general pardon some years after the Civil War? ***

Lincoln met with Grant, Sherman and a few other senior leaders at City Point, Virginia a matter of days before Lee’s lines at Petersburg were broken and Richmond fell to Grant’s forces. The broad outline of what the peace terms would be was the topic of discussion. There would be no hangings or trials. The policy was “Let ‘em up easy”.

The major fear was that Lee’s army might disperse to the Appalachian Mountains and commence a guerilla war that might last a decade or more. Generous surrender terms were the inducement to get the fighting stopped.

“....He’s gone political...has a very shallow grasp of history tinged by his obvious ideology.....”

Milley wears his four pieces of silver, question is what he’s willing to do to receive the remaining 26-pieces.

Please explain why you say seceding from the Union is illegal. There was no attempt to overthrow or replace. In those days the individual states had much more autonomy than today.

Although the Constitution does not directly mention secession, the Supreme Court has consistently interpreted the Constitution to be an ‘’indestructible Union’’.

There is no legal basis a state can point to for unilaterally seceding. Many scholars hold that the Confederate secession was blatantly illegal.

There were pardons on a massive level. Now either they are legal and legit or they were not.

As for this general I think Trump needs to find an America loving general and get rid of this globalist, progressive pinko. The US military has been compromised by the globalist and the communists. It was the last remaining government entity I had any faith in. That faith has been shattered by the behavior of the senior generals and admirals. They are warmongers, globalists and communists. What fool officer wants to go to war for 20 yrs! War should be the last resort and then you wage it ruthlessly to finish it and stop the killing on both sides. I had hope they US military might save the country, but believe after Trump leaves the scene we are looking at an oppressive dark age and they will support it.

"a section of the state legislature remained loyal to the Union and was recognized by Congress as the legitimate Virginia legislature. Coincidentally they represented the western part of the state and they later voted to partition Virginia into two states. Congress voted to allow it and West Virginia was born."

The VAST majority of the state of Virginia at that time lived in the part that joined the Confederacy. It doesn't matter what the western part of the state did politically or that declaring themselves the official government of Virginia at the time was somehow recognized by a corrupt Congress. The 1870 population of Virginia was 1,225,163. West Virginia had an 1870 population of 442,014. Your argument implies that 26.5% of a states population can declare itself the actual state and be recognized as such by Congress. Your argument is full of shit no matter how it may have been interpreted by historians. Most of the pro-Confederate voters living in West Virginia did not even cast their votes during the stunt elections held by the West Virginia part of the state as they already considered themselves citizens of the Confederacy rather than the United States and voting in a United states election wasn't considered by them to be legal.

“How so? (General Eisenhower would have thought his comments a danger to the men and mission.)

President Trump supports keeping the names of military bases named after former Confederates. He has said so publicly.

Comes now a modern, top general who says the Confederates committed treason.

Add one and one: the general is saying his commander in chief supports traitors. This aligns with the oft-repeated claims of the left that President Trump himself has committed treason.

Worse, that general is displaying that he has done a political calculation and determined he can openly express contempt for his commander in chief and get away with it.

“War of Southern Rebellion.”

There are better ways of trying to be relevant than supporting this general over President Trump. Find one.
