It’s like peering through the gates of hell. Lots wife had nothing to look at compared to this.
The West half of the island is actually mostly “straight” families and the most developed. The village of Ocean Beach is the largest on the island and has zero openly “gay” culture. In fact, there is a fence in between the two halves and even the ferries from the mainland are seperate.
The middle east side is indeed probably one the most openly gay places on earth. That’s what most people think of when they hear Fire Island.
The far east side is completely wild and you’ll see almost no people. That’s where you can camp on the beach under the stars.
I love Fire Island and would say these are the finest wild beaches within a day trip of NYC. Cars are also not allowed on the island so the only machine noise you’ll hear on the beach are a few planes.

My brother was recovering from major brain surgery (large tumor) at an inpatient rehab center.
When COVID came out it was locked down, no visitors.
Then a notice, a patient tested positive, then my brother had it!
After a few days back in the hospital all normal and tested clean for COVID.
A week or two later and high a fever returns, back to the hospital COVID positive!
He died.
In good shape like a gym rat but the surgery was very high risk, the only option.
I suspect the tests are not that accurate?
We will know more in a year or two. I hope.
