This lines up with what Indian media are reporting, that the troops who usually manned this area from India and China knew each other well and were generally friendly towards each other.

However on the night of the incident when the Indian Colonel, whose killing sparked this, went over to talk to his Chinese counterparts they were completely different troops altogether and quite hostile.
