Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King will face off against four other primary candidates Tuesday night, and the embattled congressman confirms the poll numbers between him and his closest challenger are tight.
“Well, it's closer than we would like. But we've been on top in every legitimate number, and in absolutely every published poll, so that tells me that the voters are gonna make their decision,” he told the Washington Examiner on Thursday.
“But one thing is that none of my opponents have criticized a single vote that I put up in 18 years in this Congress," said King, first elected to the House in 2002. "I don't have a single personal accuser of anything. It's all left-wing press. So, I always don't believe the left-wing press. We polled that, so I should be in pretty good shape, but we shall see.”
The Iowa congressman won his last reelection by 3% and has just over $32,000 cash on hand as he heads into the final days of his primary campaign in an R+11 Cook Political Report-rated district.
In a recent poll, King held a narrow lead over his nearest Republican primary opponent, state Sen. Randy Feenstra.
It is not necessary for King to win completely in order to earn the Republican nomination, as the contest goes to a convention if no candidate receives over 35% of the total primary vote. However, King or Feenstra, or both, are likely to meet that ceiling.
King, 71, was removed from his committee assignments by the House Republican Steering Committee early last year after making controversial comments about white supremacy during an interview with the New York Times.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters there is no guarantee King will be reassigned to his committee seats should he be reelected.
Several House GOP leaders have contributed money to Feenstra's primary bid against King.
King has stood with the citizens and the rule of law against illegal aliens and their GOP enablers.
The Bush League Republicans hate him for that.

From what I remember there was nothing controversial about them. Just leftist screeching and typical GOP groveling and butt licking.
This is why GOP fund raising is in the toilet. I despise the GOP more than the demoncraps.
King has gained the support of popular northwest Iowan and Trump adviser Sam Clovis. Endorsements don’t mean much these days, but Clovis’ endorsement is a big deal.
Nothing must get in the way of the Dem-GOP transformation of our homeland into Mexico.
Minneapolis should push King over the top. People are watching and realizing that King is right.
With that said, I'm not voting for his chief challenger either. Feenstra is a RINO, trying to be Mr. Conservative.
I'll be voting for Jeremy Taylor. He's not going to win the election, but if no candidate comes up with 35%, the election goes to a convention, and in that scenario, I think Taylor can win. That scenario is how King got in 16/18 years ago, whenever. King got 2nd in the election, but no one got 35%, and he was the compromise candidate at the district convention. We'll know soon....
If a Rep named King is to be primaried, it ought to be the faux Republican creep from NY.
King has been a personal friend since the early 90s. He is a victim of the left wing media and cowardly Republicans. King has always condemned any form of racism but defends western civilization. He is 100% honest and you can always believe what he says.
Hiowever, it looks like the big money backing Feenstra now may be wasting their money. Let’s hope so.
The Bushies aren’t going down without a fight.
I don't have a good feel on the race from the word on the street. Nobody is really saying much, which I actually think is good news for King. If it does go to convention, Feenstra is not going to come out of it I don't think. I don't think he is any candidate's 2nd choice.
