Nashville Mayor Cooper today filed the city’s recommended operating budget for fiscal year 2021 with the Metro Council.

Metro Finance estimates that the city will experience a $470 million revenue decline over a 16-month time frame due to the impact of COVID-19 and the March tornado. The decline in revenue during Q4 of fiscal year 2020 required Metro to cut expenditures and spend down remaining fund balances, leaving Metro with only $12 million of fund balances at the end of FY20.

Same thing was said about $1.00 in the Tennessean. They translated it out in whatever that means as a calculation point into what it would cost in actual dollars for property owners.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Nashville Mayor John Cooper presented his budget for the Fiscal Year 2021 to members of Metro Council Tuesday afternoon, reflecting a $1.00 property tax increase. The increase raises the current rate of $3.155 up to $4.155.

Looks like they forget some zeros in there should be 1,000.00 if the increase figures they show are correct.

They state the rate as dollars but it’s dollars per $100, so it’s really a percent.

And it’s on the assessed value which is 25% of the appraised value.

So they are talking about raising it from $3.155 to $4.155.

So if you had a $200,000 home, you would owe 2077.50 up from $1,477.50.

I’m outside of Nashville so doesn’t affect me and I don’t get to vote for mayor.

We haven’t elected a Republican Mayor in Nashville since Grover Cleveland was in his first term (1880s). Haven’t had a Republican Congressman in even longer, since 1872.

= = = =

THAT is just embarrassing.

Places NOT to move to...

The average sale price of a home in Nashville was $314,000 last month. The assessed value is 25% of the appraised value, which would make the average assessment $78,500 with an additional tax increase of $785 per year.

Living in Bay Area is tough enough for a conservative like me. It would be insufferable had it not been for Prop 13. God bless Paul Gann and Howard Jarvis. May you eternally rest in peace.

“Let me guess, Nashville elected a Democrat?”

Nashville is nothing more than an fake Cowboy music town infiltrated by woke leftist / Hillbillies. It’s the Austin of TN.

Brilliant /sarc. One of the by-products of this whole mess is that people are going to want to move out of cities. The stupid mayor is too dumb to realize that by raising taxes, he's helping that accelerate even further, and then...boom....declining tax revenue for the city.

A huge tax hike in the middle of a depression? I guess that’s one way to slow growth in Nashville.
